Basic Function

LyondellBasell's Pipeline operation is seeking a Measurement Technician who will be responsible for a variety of tasks involving testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of custody transfer and inventory meters, pipeline transmitters, shutdown devices and process control equipment. This role serves as a company representative with the customer, and the public.

Roles & Responsibilities

Performs duties in adherence with LyondellBasell procedures and standards.
•    Takes personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations and work performance as they relate to the LyondellBasell’s key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation.
•    Provides accurate and timely communication to co-workers and works with other functions to improve individual and unit performance. Provides ideas, raises concerns, and promotes an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
•    Performs federal, state, and locally required inspections on pipeline facilities and associated equipment.
•    Performs problem solving which may cause interruption of pipeline operations or which may endanger company personnel, customers or the general public and initiates immediate action to correct the problem.
•    Participates in EPO’s on call system for emergency situations and is trained to the first responder level.
•    Responsible for maintaining all training required for successful completion of the assigned job tasks. (training for safety, environmental, and emergency response).
•    Responsible for pipeline project execution and inspections of contractors working the projects on company and third-party facilities.
•    Schedules and performs maintenance inspections of all measurement sites and testing of all equipment as it pertains to DOT regulations.
•    Responsible for activities relating to installation, calibration, and maintenance of metering equipment at custody transfer sites.
•    Performs meter tests, proving, and the witnessing of third parties in a manner that complies with the various parties and policies affected by these tasks, including but not limited to; API, AGA, Volumetric Control Policy (Sarbanes / Oxley), Inventory Management Control Standard, binding contracts with customers, Foreign Trade Zones, ISO 9002, Equistar Pipeline Operations and LyondellBasell Measurement Standards.
•    Maintains the correct size orifice plate in orifice meters to facilitate accurate measurement.  Maintains all process control equipment located on the pipeline. (i.e. pipeline transmitters, control valves, etc.).
•    Maintains an updated working knowledge of instrumentation and measurement equipment that is in standard use on the pipeline and be able to program/configure them as needed. (i.e. Rosemount transmitters, Omni and Dynamics flow computers)
•    Responsible for maintaining all assets inside his/her assigned meter areas up to and including the isolation, lockout and clearing of said meter skids for maintenance activities and your routine work.

Min. Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED equivalency required
•    Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Technology preferred
•    Three or more years of volume measurement (mass measurement), densitometers, flow and pressure control systems, heat exchangers, digital flow computers, or advanced test equipment for a pipeline company is required.
•    Three or more years of third-party proving experience working with an established proving company performing master meter proving or small volume proving is required if no measurement experience.
•    Pipeline experience is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

•    A working knowledge of volume measurement (mass measurement), densitometers, flow and pressure control systems, heat exchangers.
•    Candidate must have a good driving record.
•    Candidate must have basic computer skills and strong math skills.
•    Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret piping, wiring, and P & I D drawings as they relate to construction and maintenance of pipeline measurement and control facilities; must be able to work with limited supervision, must be professional and able to communicate with customers in all situations.
•    Position often requires the supervision and or coordination of contractors on various projects.
•    Work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment)
•    Work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment
•    Work outside, year-round under various weather conditions
•    Stand and walk for extended periods of time
•    Work in an environment that requires frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
•    Enter tight or confined spaces
•    Possess a working level knowledge of work permitting, process safety, and operating discipline
•    Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
