Basic Function

The CAE Design Engineer is responsible for all design activities within the Americas regions, which include and are not limited to, performing mold flow analyses for our customers as required, to be the North America Mold Flow simulation expert, maintain NA design Database while being customer’s focal point for design data, be admin for APS PPC North American Technical Data Sheets, verify and format static and dynamic tensile/flexural data. #LI-TF1

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support and lead all mold filling and structural programs/projects (automotive and non-automotive) assigned to the APS NA Engineering Design Group
  • Support customer mold filling projects by attending design reviews (Mold Flow & Materials), giving design recommendations for gating, geometry, etc. for our products
  • Manage Engineering Design North America material database, which includes material properties (thermal and mechanical data) for mold flow analyses, static and dynamic tensile / flexural data, creep data, fatigue data, compression data, etc. (advanced design data)
  • Support sales, marketing, and business development teams to promote LYB products and innovations
  • Help PAD’s and Business with advanced design data generation
  • Focal point for out-sourcing of design data, obtaining quotes, working closely with PAD Engineers for resin samples, and verifying/formatting tested data
  • Work closely with CAE Design Engineers in other regions 
  • Act as property data and part design focal point for NA customers and OEMs
  • Address NA customer design problems as related to our materials
     

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in areas including Polymers, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other related field. 
  • Minimum ten years working experience in mold filling, cooling, and stress analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience with polymeric materials including mechanical properties, design life, viscoelasticity, stress-relaxation, fatigue, stress-strain at high strain rate. 
  • Knowledge and experience with polymer injection molding process and tool design.
  • Experience and skills with Model Building with tools IDEAS and Hypermesh, Mold filling/Packing/Cooling/Shrink/Warp with C-Mold, Moldflow, and Autodesk
  • Experience in Structural Analysis with ABAQUS and failure analysis with MA 187, MA-24, and other materials models.
  • Ability to interpret simulation results to customers in easily understandable language.
  • Knowledge and experience in polymer blending and/or compounding processes preferred.
  • Understand polymeric materials micromechanics and constitution models.
  • Computer skills and Microsoft Office experience including Word Documents, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
