The Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring quality of materials produced at the Jackson plant as well as the monitoring of plant adherence to government and company environmental regulations. This includes laboratory services, certification of product to the customer, quality improvement projects, with the goal of long term continuous improvement. Responsible for maintaining positive customer relationships with key customers supplied by the Jackson plant, resolving customer related complaints and maintaining the ISO9001 / IATF 16949 Quality Management system at the plant. Lead investigative analysis on quality non-conformances including 3x5, 5Why and Fishbone Analysis. Maintain LPA program for the site and ensure findings are communicated to proper departments.
A Day in the Life
- Promote Safety and Environmental Compliance: Actively support health, safety, and environmental programs at the Jackson facility by adhering to all related procedures and initiatives.
- Engage in Safety Activities: Participate in monthly safety meetings, conduct safety observations, and report all Near Misses and incidents promptly.
- Maintain a Strong Safety Record: Work safely and effectively to ensure zero recordable incidents.
- Ensure Timely and Effective Customer Support: Respond promptly to customer complaints, identify corrective actions, and follow through to completion.
- Lead Quality Issue Investigations: Conduct root cause analyses using tools like 3x5, 5Why, and fishbone diagrams for plant-related issues affecting customer processes.
- Foster Customer Relationships: Maintain positive engagement by visiting customers when appropriate and addressing concerns proactively.
- Manage Quality Non-Conformances: Issue and track Non-Conformance Material (NCM) reports, determine corrective actions, and ensure their completion to prevent recurrence.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Conduct annual reviews with key stakeholders on process documentation (Process Flow Chart, Control Plan, PFMEA) and audit KPI processes for compliance and improvement.
- Support Cost-Effective Production: Provide product quality data to guide improvements and help minimize off-spec production while maintaining high output at the lowest cost.
- Monitor Production Quality: Track lot-to-lot consistency and support improvements as needed.
- Assist with Quality Issues: Help investigate customer complaints and manage off-grade inventory.
- Support Inventory Control: Aid in maintaining low off-grade inventory and rework disposition.
- Ensure Quality System Compliance: Maintain ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 standards through documentation, internal audits, LPA support, and calibration schedules.
- Manage Quality Records and Studies: Oversee Gage R&R, UL/NSF audits, and offsite record retention at Iron Mountain.
- Resolve Audit Non-Compliance: Investigate ISO/IATF audit findings, conduct root cause analyses (e.g., 3x5, Fishbone), and lead corrective action meetings.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Use audit results and site best practices to support ongoing performance enhancements.
You Bring This Value
Thorough knowledge of APO Processes and Products
Strong understanding of materials requirements and applications
Familiarity with quality standards and color specifications
Detailed working knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
American Society for Quality (ASQ), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
Proficiency in SAP and Sample Manager systems
General knowledge of plant operations, capacity planning, and manufacturing
Experience with existing color equipment, software, and technology (highly desirable)
Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Experience with Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R)
Preferred experience with FTIR and DSC testing
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Skilled in influencing across all organizational levels
Committed to continuous improvement through Lean management
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant experienc
