Basic Function

Supply Chain is a customer-focused Center of Excellence providing industry-leading service while delivering differential value to the business, today and into the future. We separate our Supply Chain functions into several areas; these include logistics, customer fulfillment, services, trade compliance, and support for business processes and systems.​


As a member of our dynamic Supply Chain team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that LyondellBasell follows all required trade compliance processes and procedures for the North America region. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting all business units and managing the day to day trade compliance activities which may include supporting US, Canada, and Mexico Imports or Exports. During a typical day, you will receive trade compliance requests and must complete in a timely manner.  

This position reports to the Business Process Systems and Support Manager and is primarily located at our Houston Engineering Center office, only 14 short miles east of downtown Houston, TX. Roles & Responsibilities
  • Manage day to day trade compliance activities, which may include supporting US, Canada, and Mexico Imports and Exports. 
  • Act as a point of contact for Account Specialists, Planning, Sales, Asset Managers, Marketing Managers, Legal, Technical Services, and other internal groups to support Trade Compliance requests. 
  • Manage import and export record-keeping for US, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Provide INCO Term support and expertise to the Sales and Account Specialist teams.
  • Provide support and begin to understand the US classification (HTS/ECCN) procedures.
  • Understand General Rules of Interpretation and complete the required HTS training.
  • Monitor and respond to requests in the trade compliance shared mailboxes in a timely manner.
  • Proactively learn, understand and ensure adherence to Imports and Exports processes and  procedures.
  • Develop trade compliance expertise and able to “apply” to LYB.
  • Assist with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) process for the company. Validate and issue FTA certificates.
  • Effectively manage operational relationship with Freight Forwarder and Broker network.
  • Proactively collaborate with Trade Compliance Consultant to pull data for internal and external audits and reviews. 
  • Perform periodic internal audits to ensure compliance with processes.
  • Recommend process improvements via corrective and preventative recommendations.
  • Provide support and collect required data for Duty Drawback and Export Licensing.
  • Manage Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) 486 reporting requirements for LYB.
  • Manage valuation and FTA reconciliations.
  • Operate with a solution-oriented mindset with regard to process improvements; Assist with change implementation for extended system improvements or other Trade Compliance projects.
  • Partner with peers to provide solutions, guidance to resolve business related problems.
  • Model LyondellBasell core competencies with internal customers.
Min. Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years relevant, industry related experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or Trade Compliance is strongly preferred. Will consider candidates with a High School Diploma that have at least 4 years’ relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must possess excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills with a focus on results, customer service and change management.
  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Interpersonal and negotiation skills centered on innovation and problem solving are key for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken) is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) and familiar with extended tools. Knowledge of Access preferred.
  • 1+ years of SAP/SAP Reporting (BW, BI) experience is preferred.
  • Some Project Management skills.
