The Worldwide Tax group at LyondellBasell is a collection of over 70 dynamic individuals located in multiple countries that work diligently to comply with our Company’s regulatory requirements and enhance shareholder value. Globally, we consist of U.S. federal, state, and non-U.S. compliance, global tax accounting for both U.S. GAAP and IFRS tax reporting processes, and global tax planning teams. We are also heavily focused on enhancements and process efficiencies through tax technology and have a group of Tax Excellence professionals. Our group operates on a hybrid work schedule with the ability to work remotely 2 days per week. 

 

The Assistant Tax Manager for our Global Tax Reporting and Tax Compliance group will contribute significantly to the tax function by assisting in the review and preparation of the quarterly and annual global tax reporting process for both USGAAP and IFRS, assist in Pillar 2 compliance implementation and execution, and the review of specific components of the US Federal income tax return and contribute to special projects such as audits and planning projects as needed. This position will also collaborate with local country tax teams, tax counsel teams, and finance. There will also be the opportunity to assist in coaching and developing staff members and lead various special projects.

A Day in the Life

  • Lead the preparation and/or review of quarterly and year-end tax provision for domestic, local country, and worldwide tax provisions under the principles of ASC 740 (USGAAP) and IAS 12 (IFRS), including, but not limited to:
    • Review of items prepared by other staff members and manage the timely delivery of high quality work product
    • Review and/or preparation of the quarterly executive tax package
    • Review and/or preparation of required footnotes and disclosures
    • Review worldwide current and deferred tax calculation
    • Review of FIN 48 calculation and workpapers
    • Review and/or preparation of effective tax rate analysis
    • Review of quarterly tax account reconciliations, and variance analysis
    • Review of certain return to accrual and tax basis balance sheet computations
    • Preparing and maintaining a work plan to manage the global tax reporting deliverables to ensure deadlines are met
    • Review of the state tax provision including blended state rate analysis, FIN 48, NOLs, and VAs.
  • Contribute to various tax compliance related activities, including, but not limited to:
    • Implementation and execution of Pillar 2 compliance processes
    • Manage the execution of ongoing Pillar 2 compliance and reporting activities
    • Review components of the consolidated U.S. Federal Corporate Income tax return, Form 1120
    • Review significant book to tax differences such as depreciation and capitalized interest for capital intensive company including related tax forms and partnership tax calculations for Forms 1065
  • Research advanced tax and tax accounting issues and assist in drafting clear and concise technical memorandum
  • Assist or take the lead on various special projects as needed, including but not limited to: forecasting of the ETR and CTR and other tax impacts, Country by Country Reporting, various business transactions, process improvement projects, etc.
  • Assist in coaching, training, and developing staff in the areas of technical tax accounting and professional development
  • Maintaining/creating key relationships with others within and outside the tax department in order to ensure expectations and deadlines are met
  • Superuser for the Tax Reporting team with respect to various tax technology including Alteryx and OneSource Tax Provision. This includes thinking proactively and critically about how to leverage tax technology to optimize Tax Reporting and Compliance processes
