Basic Function



As the Sustainability Data Portfolio Lead, your core function will be to spearhead and integrate all aspects of our sustainability data initiatives. This role encompasses leading a comprehensive strategy across various sustainability domains including ESG reporting, carbon management, risk management, and sustainable supply chain management. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of data-related projects, from strategic design and implementation to the ongoing enhancement of data systems and processes. As the functional owner of data architecture for sustainability, you'll orchestrate the creation and management of tailored data frameworks, ensuring alignment with business goals. Your role involves close collaboration with data stewards and governance bodies to enhance data quality, acting as the main liaison between the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence and diverse stakeholders. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with existing IT Sustainability data leads supporting Carbon Management, Circularity, and ESG Reporting. You will play a crucial role in translating business needs into effective data solutions and analytics, driving the development of data workflows and pipelines, and maintaining a holistic view of all sustainability data to identify key synergies and interdependencies.

Roles & Responsibilities



  • Lead and orchestrate the overarching Sustainability Data efforts, ensuring a comprehensive view across all pillars (ESG Corporate Sustainability Disclosure Management, Carbon Management, Risk Management, Product Sustainability & Circularity Performance, Environmental Management, and Sustainable Supply Chain Management).
  • Actively assist the business in identifying and defining new, high-impact sustainability-focused data-driven use cases. This role involves leveraging the value from all functional data work to drive meaningful and valuable sustainability outcomes.
  • Assume complete responsibility and demonstrate leadership in guiding all data-focused projects within the sustainability portfolio. This encompasses the strategic oversight of the entire lifecycle of data initiatives and processes, from initial design and implementation to ongoing improvements.
  • Key responsibilities include thoroughly documenting requirements, effectively managing the backlog, and ensuring coordinated efforts in all aspects of data-related initiatives.
  • You will assume the role of the data architecture functional owner for sustainability. This involves taking the orchestrator role for designing, implementing, and continuously managing the data architecture tailored to sustainability initiatives. Your responsibilities include orchestrating efforts and collaborating with relevant teams to identify crucial data sources, as well as establishing and refining key performance metrics. You are the business voice in technical decisions around data.
  • Exert influence and collaborate closely with data stewards and other governance bodies to ensure that any identified gaps in data management are effectively addressed including a continuous improvement in data quality;
  • Serve as the central point of contact and main liaison between the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence for Sustainability Data and cross-functional teams and stakeholders. In this pivotal role, align and synchronize efforts to establish a cohesive, data-driven approach to sustainability. This involves not only facilitating effective communication and collaboration across departments but also continuously evaluating and refining data strategies, and ensuring adoption of solutions.
  • Act as the key intermediary between business stakeholders and the data team, understanding and analyzing their sustainability data needs.
  • Effectively translate complex business requirements into actionable data solutions and insightful analytics.
  • Lead the efforts in bridging data gaps, standardizing data collection, and enhancing data quality to deliver investor-grade data, ensuring compliance with ESG reporting requirements.
  • Direct and guide solutions architects, data architects, and data engineers in designing and developing key data workflows and pipelines
  • Develop and maintain an overarching perspective of all Sustainability Data, identifying synergies and interdependencies across various pillars

Min. Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in a field like computer Science, Information Technology, Environmental Science, Sustainability Studies, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in leading complex/large-scale data management projects.
  • Proficient in data management and analytics tools
  • 5+ years of direct experience in Data, Data Analytics, data integration, and visualization; experience creating data models, data blending, Database, Data Management, data warehouse, and ETL design and development.
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the different sustainability data domains, including ESG Corporate Sustainability Disclosure Management, Carbon Management, Risk Management, Product Sustainability and circularity Performance, Environmental Management, Sustainable Supply Chain Management).
  • Demonstrate deep Sustainability Knowledge: Exhibit extensive understanding and experience in sustainability, applying this expertise in data-driven problem-solving.
  • Possess outstanding communication skills, adept at simplifying complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders in the business.
  • Strong combination of technical proficiency and business intelligence, understanding both IT intricacies and business strategies.
  • Have robust functional skills to interact and engage productively with business stakeholders.
  • Be capable of influencing both business units and IT departments, fostering effective and meaningful change.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to lead projects, working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Take the lead and collaborate with existing data leads for Carbon Management, Circularity, and ESG Reporting.
  • Display a high level of enthusiasm and a deep passion for data and its potential.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including expertise in data analytics techniques and the ability to present data findings effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks independently with minimal supervision, showcasing superior decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Utilize excellent communication abilities to professionally resolve conflicts and engage routinely in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Capacity to lead teams in a cross-functional, global, diverse, and multi-cultural setting.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and interacting with all organizational levels, including senior IT and business executives.
  • Possess a global mindset and experience in managing and navigating global teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's Degree (Preferred) in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on sustainability, Data Science, Information Systems, Environmental Management, or Sustainability Leadership.
  • Knowledge of SAP data is a plus!
