Basic Function

Collaboration is one of the key elements of LyondellBasell’s sustainability approach and this role supports our efforts to drive a more collective approach to increasing stakeholder engagement as well as business and reputational value. It is responsible for translating the corporate strategy into action and for developing a comprehensive engagement plan to connect with our key stakeholders. The role also requires the evaluation and implementation of credible programs and partnerships to accelerate LYB’s reputation on sustainability. This person is the champion for the sustainable engagement programs internally and subject matter expert externally with different stakeholders within LyondellBasell, across the value chain (i.e. customers) and with external stakeholders.
 

Roles & Responsibilities

 

External Engagement

  • Support the development and execution of a coordinated engagement strategy and plan across our core strategic alliances programs; to deliver effective engagement, communication initiatives and activities both in short and long term, which support the profile and reputation of the organization, and advance our business objectives. 
  • Support executive and senior leader representation in strategic alliances and partnerships to support the advancement of our strategic objectives. 
  • Represent LYB in strategic alliances via our regional focus (US or EU) and provide two-way communications to steer our alliances to support our objectives and to identify areas for engagement within LYB. 
  • Develop effective monitoring and evaluation to advise the improvement, efficiency and value of partnerships and engagement activities.
  • Develop data and processes to support our impact reporting towards our strategic alliances and back into LYB reporting processes. 

 

Partnerships

  • Support the development and management of partnerships and platforms that help LYB deliver its sustainability commitments. Represent LYB in regional industry associations and help shape their sustainable chemistry and innovation programs.
  • Support key relationships with external stakeholders including The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), UN Global Compact, World Economic Forum, Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) and many more.
  • Supervise progress against LYB’s commitments, such as the UN Global Compact and Together for Sustainability, and joining related meetings and events.

 

Governance

  • Support the development and execution of the governance structure that supports and accelerates program development and collaboration across the workstreams and with senior business leaders. 
  • Be the subject matter expert in the company to keep pace with external developments, stakeholder expectations and key reports (from these organizations) in order to influence further progress and developments as needed.
  • Work with the core sustainability team and support the development of our Non-Market Strategy across Government Relations, Sustainability and Communications to guide, develop and deliver engagement strategy and initiatives, addressing a wide range of audiences and non-market actors. 
  • Work cross functionally to identify, initiate, and lead projects that complement and accelerate our progress on sustainability.

 

Communications and Messaging 

  • Support advocacy and communication efforts that will help accelerate progress and amplify our efforts to stakeholders. 
  • Support the development of content for external reporting efforts.
  • Develop high quality and effective marketing and communication materials that align correctly with the overall brand and LYB sustainability strategy.

 

Min. Qualifications

  • University degree in business or relevant discipline
  • The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 4 years but ideally 6 to 8 years of experience working in industry, with sustainability expertise and affinity for public affairs, external engagement, and stakeholder management. 
  • Ability to execute global and company wide strategy
  • Ability to inspire and motivate audiences inside and outside of LYB
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of cultural bias and resistance to change with an ability to overcome both
  • Experience in navigating a complex organization and managing multiple stakeholders with diverse priorities
  • Comfort in engaging independently with senior internal and external stakeholders, customer focus and strong experience in building and maintaining successful relationships
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including distilling complex information into simpler, concise and audience-appropriate messages
  • Project management skills and experience in managing multiple priorities simultaneously and maintaining momentum in long-term projects
  • Able to inspire others
  • Analytical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (Masters of Business Administration or similar, or similar level of business experience)
