Basic Function

This position is for a Sr. Server Virtualization Support Specialist in the Enterprise Servers & Storage Operations group reporting into the Operational Platforms organization. The primary role of this position is to support enterprise servers and storage by evaluating, installing, and implementing virtualization, cloud, and compute technologies while providing ongoing management for existing IT compute infrastructure and cloud systems.   The position works closely with the other infrastructure groups, as well as, the application teams to develop, maintain, and improve the compute infrastructure (on-prem and cloud based) of the company. This position requires a broad range of knowledge across multiple IT disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Adhere to LyondellBasell’s compute infrastructure (physical, virtual, and cloud) design.
  • Operational responsibility for compute maintenance activities including patch management planning and execution.
  • Operational responsibility for compute lifecycle management and hardware platform selection.
  • Assist in implementation of infrastructure to support IT services and business requirements.
  • Use effective measures to respond to infrastructure server alerts.
  • Perform ticket queue monitoring and prioritization.
  • Maintain and operate existing private\public cloud implementation and management.
  • Participate in project implementation of compute infrastructure to support IT services and business requirements.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex issues that cross multiple domains, applying core knowledge and troubleshooting to lead group to resolution.
  • Maintain the company’s compute infrastructure documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures).
  • Use effective measures to respond to virtualization infrastructure alerts.
  • After-hours / weekend work as required. 
  • Participate in a global on-call rotation on an established schedule.


  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or MIS preferred, or 5-7 years’ equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience managing VMware ESXi, vCenter environments.
  • 5-7 years experience with Microsoft server technologies.
  • 3-5 years in an server\infrastructure administration role.
  • 2-3 years of hands on experience with Private\Public cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure preferred).
  • Experience with server and blade hardware, HPE ProLiant preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of enterprise SAN storage.
  • Experience with patch management systems for Microsoft based systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft SCOM and SCCM tools preferred.
  • Hands on experience scripting in a Windows environment preferred.
  • VMware Certified Professional preferred.
