Basic Function

Reporting to the Director, Financial Risk Management (Americas), the Senior Financial Risk Manager will support the functions of the Financial Risk Management group in the US by working closely with commercial and other Finance departments to perform financial risk assessments of all major capital projects as well as support activities to generate, develop, implement and monitor strategies to manage financial risks, including commodity price risk, foreign exchange and interest rate risk. This position will also lead the consolidated evaluation and reporting of lost profit and gained profit opportunities, including ensuring strong cross functional collaboration.  This position will be key in establishing and executing processes, communicating the value proposition and supporting the tools/infrastructure around the processes to do these.  Ensure that the company maintains its focus on risk control and also provide value adding decision support by assisting commercial through various financial risk reports and models.



Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead the Financial Risk Assessments of proposed capital projects and provide input to the Capital Administration process
• Lead the FRM activities related to Capital Project Post Reviews to identify and report key project performance factors and learnings to improve the process
• Global process owner for Lost Profit Opportunity (LPO) and Gained Profit Opportunity (GPO)/Loss Avoidance Opportunity (LAO) including monthly review and validation of LPO’s/GPO’s/LAO’s
• Review and validate Procurement’s Total Secured Savings (TSV) savings initiatives
• Perform on-going review and analysis of potential financial impacts associated with commodity production and supply changes arising from LYB production status.
• Develop and support commodity pricing and supply/demand inputs for Long Range Planning Models to predict potential market driven impacts to LYB’s profitability
• Support the analysis and development of potential hedging opportunities to protect and enhance profitability and present these to the business for implementation
• Attend market and industry knowledge share events to improve understanding and knowledge and improve awareness of potential risks to LYB’s profitability
• Support and/or perform the execution of the hedging transactions and monitor and report the effectiveness of the hedge once implemented
• Act as lead to implement, manage and perform training programs for Project Economics and Fundamentals of Business Finance as part of the Engineer Development Training as well as other related risk management trainings for the broader organization
• Be an advocate for the Company’s FRM standards and practices among senior management and the executive team, and facilitate a strong compliance culture for current and new and emerging products and services
• Support the development and oversight of Finance Risk Management policies, procedures and guidelines
• Design, implement and manage risk management processes & reporting tools

Min. Qualifications

Work Experience:
• 15+ years of experience in finance and/or commercial experience, with meaningful experience in energy-related commodity markets, systems, analysis, and trade execution.

• Strong background in petrochemical markets (olefins, polyolefins, intermediates and derivatives, refining and associated business) preferred and understanding of commodity price markets, including what drives markets, factors that influence price movements and how markets are related
• Strong understanding of financial modeling, advanced analytics, and forecasting is required
• Experience in economic evaluations required, including business analysis (IRR, NPV, payback, etc.) and financial market research
• Experience with a company with operations outside the US that is impacted by commodity and currencies price fluctuations and has grown through acquisitions

• Experience with project management and demonstrated success overseeing multiple projects to completion

• Strong PC skills; Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and relational database concepts

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Engineering or other related field required
• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Quantitative Finance, Economics/Econometrics, or other related field strongly preferred

Licenses & Certifications:
• Treasury and/or risk certification such as Certified Treasury Professional (“CTP”) or FRM is a plus
• Certification in analytics is a plus, such as Certified Analytics Professional (“CAP”)
• Chartered Financial Analyst is a plus
