Basic Function

This position is responsible for leading and directing all facets of Global Logistics and Compliance for all business areas within LyondellBasell.  The key responsibilities of the role include Logistics network design and global logistics strategies including the executing of the procure to pay processes within supply chain.   Establishing global trade and transportation compliance standards, monitoring, and audits.  Establishing global logistics code of practices, material handling standards, and equipment specifications.   

 

The incumbent is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with different external and internal, direct and indirect stakeholders. Be active in industry associations to drive forward key industry initiatives on safety, sustainability and digitalization.  This position has 6-8 direct reports, a global team of 90 people, and annual logistics spend of $2.2 billion. This role can work a hybrid schedule and be based out of Houston, Texas or Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Strategic Procurement Planning: Develop and execute strategic procurement plans for logistics services globally, considering factors such as cost, quality, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Supplier Identification, Qualification, and Relationship Management: Identify and qualify logistics service suppliers, evaluating their capabilities, reliability, compliance with regulatory standards, and alignment with company values.  Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, carriers, and logistics service providers, fostering collaboration, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement in performance.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, carriers, and logistics service providers to ensure favorable terms, pricing, and service levels while mitigating risks.
  • Network Design, Optimization, and Cost to Serve: Design and optimize the global logistics network, including distribution centers, warehouses, and transportation routes, to minimize costs, reduce transit times, and improve service levels.
  • Transportation and Trade Compliance Management: Oversee compliance with transportation regulations governing the movement of hazardous materials, including DOT, IATA, IMDG, and other relevant regulations, to ensure safe and compliant transportation of chemical products.  Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, including import/export controls, customs requirements, and trade agreements, to mitigate legal and financial risks associated with global trade.
  • Regulatory Monitoring and Compliance Training: Stay abreast of regulatory changes and updates related to trade compliance and transportation regulations, providing guidance and training to relevant stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and assess risks within the supply chain, such as geopolitical instability, transportation disruptions, and regulatory changes, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
  • Cost Control and Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for logistics procurement and compliance functions, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements while ensuring compliance with financial targets.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics procurement, network design, and compliance functions, leveraging data analytics and best practices to optimize processes, reduce costs, and enhance performance.
  • Crisis Management and Contingency Planning: Develop and maintain crisis management and contingency plans to address potential supply chain disruptions, transportation incidents, or other emergencies, ensuring business continuity and minimizing operational impacts.
     

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management or Finance preferred
  • Master’s Degree or MBA in relevant field preferred   
  • Typically, 15+ years of experience in positions with increasing responsibility in supply chain, purchasing, materials management, or similar customer facing role, of which at least 5 years in supervisory role  
  • Fluency in English required.  
  • Working knowledge of one or more other European languages preferred
