Basic Function

The Sr. Director, Chief Enterprise Architect will be responsible for refining and stewarding LYB’s architecture vision while providing architectural leadership across lines of business. The Chief Architect will balance strategic and tactical initiatives while leading the development of standards and patterns for software tooling, modern technology design principles, and reference architectures.


The Sr. Director, Chief Enterprise Architect will be fluent in business and technology and drive alignment between both strategies.  As world-class communicator they will possess the ability to champion the vision, strategy, and road map within the organization and to empower everyone from the C-suite to system architects to make the vision real. The Chief Architect plays a significant role driving improved efficiency and cost savings across LYB, fostering innovation, realizing strategy through solutions, and increasing business agility.

 

This position will oversee 4-6 direct reports, with a total organization of 25+ employees along with outsourced partners around the world. This position can be based in the LyondellBasell Tower in Houston, Texas or in the Rotterdam, The Netherlands office.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Steward and maintain the organization's overall modern architecture vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Provide overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture to effectively support the corporate business strategy.
  • Act as a strategic enabler and champion for enterprise architecture and design principles.
  • Review and direct IT strategy ensuring alignment to business outcomes, fostering a culture of collaboration, development, and innovation. 
  • Leads, develops, and coaches the Enterprise Architecture team to continually improve capabilities necessary to increase the performance of the team and the organization at large
  • Motivate and develops staff, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate them into the organization's architecture. 
  • Work with HR and Executive leadership to build a world class talent management strategy that includes an approach for leveraging regional resource pools while also acquiring and grooming early career architects.
  • Monitor external evolving technologies that will impact IT and the business and ensure adequate plans are in place to assure readiness.
  • Maintain architectural metrics and KPIs and promotes outcomes and results to the organization and senior leadership.
  • Lead review board and ensures solutions that the solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models.
  • Articulate technology solutions and explain the competitive advantages of various technology alternatives.
  • Leads and participates in the identification of initiatives to close gaps between the current and future-state architectures, including technology road maps and proposed change projects.

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Management, Engineering, or other related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in IT, specifically in enterprise architecture roles, with at least 7 years in leadership positions overseeing enterprise architectural strategies and implementations.
  • Relevant Enterprise Architecture and Cloud Engineering certifications (e.g., TOGAF, CISSP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect)
  • Deep understanding of every aspect of enterprise architecture, including enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, data, cloud, and the role of newer technology areas (i.e., Machine Learning) and their potential implications and roles in driving the overall IT strategy . Knowledge of technology concepts and implementation methods covering API architecture, next-generation computing, big-data analytics, and cloud platforms
  • Ability to manage large global team with many cross-functional stakeholders.  Off-shore resources will also be integral to managing the workload for this team which increases complexity.  Experience in managing multiple off-shore engagements is preferred.
  • Extensive expertise in multi-system landscape, systems integration, cloud architecture, security & authorization, data provisioning, reporting and analytics based on Microsoft and SAP technical stacks.
  • Strong foundation of BI/DW design and development techniques, as well as associated technical skills and related tools. 
  • Solid understanding of key technology trends.
  • Extensive business process knowledge with proven experience partnering with senior business and IT stakeholders to analyze problems and architect innovative solutions to improve business process and operational productivity.
  • Ability to create and meet timelines cognizant of business needs and constraints.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Highly self-motivated, driven work ethic, keen attention to detail and exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information in an understandable manner to non-technical audiences through writing and presentations.
  • Proven ability to establish vision, set goals, build and motivate and team to develop and execute strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience with mentoring others on methods and best-practices.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment and handle multiple issues at once.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex system analysis and draw conclusions by relating information from different sources, including root-cause analysis and issue resolution.
  • Project management experience including agile software development.
  • Chemical/Energy industry background is a plus.
