Basic Function
Counsel/Senior Counsel, O&P Americas will provide legal advice and strategic support for LyondellBasell’s O&P business in the Americas regions within company guidelines, policies, and procedures. The team’s remit includes support of the commercial and manufacturing aspects of the O&P Americas business. The position is expected to contribute individually, communicate effectively in a driven, high achieving environment, and advise senior management.
The position will be based in Houston and report to the Lead Counsel – O&P Americas.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Be a primary legal resource for LYB’s Olefins and Polyolefins – Americas commercial and manufacturing business by providing strategic and legal advice.
- Be a contributing member of the team by advising on general commercial and manufacturing issues; review, negotiate, and advise on sales and supply contracts; draft policies, procedures, and other complex legal documents; manage external counsel on discrete projects and engagements; support real estate matters as needed; and proactively develop and deliver training programs on legal topics.
- Support LYB’s O&P joint venture and LYB-nominated joint venture directors with legal and strategic advice, including advice on long term relationships with joint venture partners.
- Work closely with legal leadership to provide delivery of first class and proactive legal advice for internal business clients.
- Work across functions, businesses, and regions to identify areas of common need for LYB in complex programs and initiatives, and ensure consistent commercial practices and advice.
- Acts as a regional resource for colleagues; may direct the work of other staff members.
- Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of Legal risk management to the completion of complex assignments.

Min. Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer with relevant in-house experience
- 5+ years of post-qualification experience in a major law firm or corporation
- Experience in the chemical, energy or engineering industry is preferred
- Practical experience with commercial decisions, supply chain and logistical matters, strategic commercial relationships, and the legal issues that arise in such transactions
