Basic Function

The Intermediates and Derivatives (I&D) business is seeking a Lead Specialist, Technical Sales Services to provide technical and Product Stewardship support to the sales of I&D products in the Americas, by providing customers with product technical information and application/use information, and with environmental, safety and regulatory information. The role is also to provide leadership and guidance to the I&D business taking into consideration customer product requirements, competitor products, manufacturing and distribution practices, environmental, health and regulatory perspectives, and quality requirements from manufacturing through supply chain to customer end-use. The role may include representation for the Company on industry panels such as ACC and requires influencing external decisions on regulatory and compliance issues. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide product technical and product stewardship advice and guidance to customers, business and manufacturing. This may involve issues and inquiries related to product quality, specifications, product safety, handling, and end-use applications (existing and new). Coordinate audits by customers and by certification bodies.
  • Present and summarize complex technical issues with clarity to sales, customers, business leaders and supply chain.
  • Prepare or support company response to customer complaints relating to quality; ensure adequacy of response; recommend immediate and long-term corrective actions and drive implementation of same.
  • Develop, edit and approve technical product literature.
  • Lead change process for sales, customer, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Represent the Company in technical and professional organizations, such as ACC, IPEC, ASTM, etc.
  • Product Stewardship lead for products in assigned product line; monitor current and proposed regulatory issues impacting the business and recommend research and advocacy activities.
  • Compare Company practices with Industry practices and recommend improvements.
  • Provide product training (internally & externally).

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or 7 plus years’ experience in the petrochemical industry working in research and development, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, or other relevant technical environment.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to present product technical and stewardship issues and influence decision-making with customers, distributors, sales, business, supply chain, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus.
  • Understanding of quality and HSE management systems, e.g., ISO 9000, Responsible Care®, and Operational Excellence and regulations relevant to business area.
  • Strong (product) technical orientation with ability to think systemically, build partnerships, deliver results, drive innovation, and grow capabilities.
