Basic Function

The Senior Counsel, Capital Projects & Commercial is responsible for providing support to LyondellBasell’s capital projects team and its Intermediates & Derivatives business segment. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support for capital projects, including negotiating EPC, EPCm, and related agreements.
  • Provide legal support for contract negotiations, and provide advice and counsel on commercial, operations, and other matters related to assigned businesses. 
  • Partner with internal clients to support business objectives, in a manner consistent with applicable laws, and the company’s accepted level of risk.
  • Review and support the development of internal engagement and training materials. 
  • Coordinate with other members of the Legal Department to address the needs of the clients, including being the lead legal support for certain initiatives and projects.

Min. Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing law in a law firm and/or corporate legal department.
  • Significant experience with EPC and related agreements is required.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing with a state bar.
  • Significant experience advising on industrial construction projects, including EPC, EPCm, and related agreements.
  • Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, and analytical skills.
  • Interpersonal, organizational and stakeholder management skills; ability to work across functions to achieve results.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.
  • Solution oriented and a positive mindset.
  • Some travel required.
  • English.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with construction disputes and/or the petrochemical industry is preferred.
  • Current admission or eligibility for admission to the Texas Bar is preferred.
