Basic Function

This position is responsible for partnering with LYB Global Projects cross-functional disciplines to evaluate conceptual investment opportunities, launch them using the company’s capital approval process, and delivering capital projects within the performance goals of the organization.

The project manager will plan and execute capital projects that support and align with LYB’s business strategy encompassing: Grow & Upgrade the Core, Build a Profitable Circular & Low Carbon Solution Business, and Stepping up Performance & Culture.

Scope for this position includes all Global Projects developed and executed in North America with total installed cost (TIC) ranging from $10 MM to $400 MM for both chemical processing facilities and plastic circularity operations within the company.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities - General

  • Ensure capital projects are developed and executed with incorporation of GoalZERO HSE performance standards and practices
  • Manage capital projects valued at $10 MM - $150 MM
  • Employ the company's stage-gate Project Management Process
  • Lead to clear definition of project objectives, scope development, and front-end engineering in support of the project objectives
  • Interface effectively with project stakeholders, including Global Projects leadership, manufacturing, business, R&D, and Global Engineering & Turnarounds
  • Analyze and manage risk on projects
  • Lead multi-discipline project management teams, including company and contract personnel, in resolution of technical and commercial issues
  • Prepare and implement project execution plans leading to minimizing scope and cost growth when advancing from FEL 2 into FEL 3 and from FEL 3 into execution
  • Support development of cost effective contracting strategies
  • Accountable for project cost and schedule controls, project reporting, and forecasting
  • Develop and deliver fit-for-purpose communications to stakeholders, including project updates and stage-gate reviews 
  • Prepare funding dossiers in accordance with the company’s Capital Approval Process
  • Ability to gather information and develop a thorough understanding of the project
  • Display strong personal initiative, a sound planning and problem solving capacity, and effective interpersonal skills
  • Maintain project leadership from feasibility through execution and turnover to operations

Area of Expertise, Requirements

  • Familiarity with project delivery contracting schemes including EPCM
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with project benchmarking and gate assessment processes
  • Manage control of project budget and schedule to meet organizational goals
  • Drive third-party engineering service providers and construction contractors to meet project milestones

Min. Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or closely related technical degree

Work Experience

  • 15+ years prior experience working in the Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining, or equivalent industry on major capital projects valued over $10 MM
  • Five years minimum in role of project manager, project engineer, or project engineering manager
  • Demonstrated success in stage-gate processes for capital projects

Languages

  • English, additional language will be a plus

Other Skills

  • PE and/or PMP Certification a plus
  • Past roles in owner/operator organizations and engineering & construction contractors is preferred
