Basic Function
The Project Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost to complete smaller capital projects or providing estimating assistance as required on larger capital projects while continuing to develop and refine their estimating knowledge. This role will be in the Global Projects division of LyondellBasell which is responsible for developing and constructing capital projects over $10 million.
US offices are located at the Houston Engineering Center, just 14 miles NE from downtown Houston, TX. This is a direct-hire position with a competitive base salary, annual bonus, 401K matching, generous benefits package, pension, employee discounts, and much, much more!
Roles & Responsibilities
- Ability to prepare estimates for smaller capital projects in accordance with AACE International recommended practices and LYB work practices.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Identifies common metrics and correlations between the direct and construction accounts.
- Developing knowledge of wage rates, crew compositions, burdens and benefits, productivities, and construction indirects.
- Formulate and write estimate plans and basis of estimate.
- Able to proactively identify problems and course correct before occurrence.
- Recognizes how possible design solutions would impact other craft disciplines, the project team, or the broader organization.
- Communicates concisely and with specific intent (e.g. adjusts presentation to the audience needs – understands when to be short and concise and when more detail is needed)
- Ability to read and understand typical engineering drawings
- Recast contractor estimates and perform estimate review and validation with supervision.
- Assist with estimating competency improvements, updating estimating databases, and estimation tools.
- Attend face-to-face meetings at contractor offices and regional site locations as required.
- Conduct site visits to field verify project scope.
Min. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in business, engineering, or construction management preferred. Greater work experience is required for non-degreed individuals.
- 6-10 years of experience in capital projects, chemical, or petrochemical industry required with a degree.
- Experience utilizing Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) to develop estimates.
- English, additional language will be a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of AACE International recommended practices related to estimating.
- Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) Certification.
- Experience with estimating large capital projects.
- Ability to use the import/export function of Aspen Capital Cost Estimator to quickly move mass quantities of data into the estimate is a plus.
- Experience in other project controls disciplines (cost, scheduling, or risk) on large capital projects is a plus.
- Experience with SAP.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI.
