LyondellBasell’s Global Asset Integrity & Turnaround Department is a world-class, central engineering support organization – advancing continuous performance improvements in our petrochemical facilities worldwide.

 

This position will function as a central Subject Matter Expert in the area of Mechanical Integrity and Risk Based Inspection of pressurized process equipment used in the petrochemical industry. The primary responsibility for this position is supporting manufacturing sites with revalidation of their RBI programs and supporting closure of gaps between site programs and corporate best practices. The individual must have the technical leadership and judgment to assess complex technical issues then develop and communicate executable solutions.  In addition, the candidate may lead one or more company-wide technology related improvement programs.

A Day in the Life

  • Proactively review site mechanical integrity programs to identify gaps and inefficiencies.  Work with site personnel to align their MI program to corporate best practices.
  • Serve as a lead Auditor for the Stationary Equipment Global Asset Integrity Standard (GAIS) in Operational Excellence (OE) Audits.
  • Provide technical leadership for inspection, maintenance, and turnaround activities as manufacturing sites.
  • Serve as a stationary equipment SME and GAIT focal point for Turnarounds, including performing Peer Reviews and on-site support during execution.
  • Mentor and train in SME expertise areas to develop the broader organization and drive improvements.
  • Author, revise, maintain, and implement preferred practices and guidelines related to inspection programs and processes for Stationary Equipment.
  • Participate in industry organizations to stay informed of new technology, industry trends and practices to informally network and benchmark with others in our industry. Research new techniques and tools to enhance business performance and identify opportunities to pilot at manufacturing sites.
  • Act as a representative of the corporate Mechanical Integrity programs, communicating information across all levels in the organization from site personnel through executive leadership.
  • Analyze LOPC and LPO data to identify failure trends and systemic opportunities for improvement.
  • Function with minimal guidance to successfully manage multiple changing priorities across multiple sites and functional areas.
  • Effectively interface across the company building consensus, and working well with people in diverse, multi-culture teams to gain support for organizational goals and facilitate execution of Mechanical Integrity initiatives.
  • Champion Process Safety, Occupational Safety, and Operational Excellence culture.
  • Travel up to 20% as required to meet business needs.

You Bring This Value

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Alternately, 15 years of direct experience managing an inspection program.

 

Work Experience

  • Requirements: Ten years of experience working as a mechanical engineer or inspector in the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries with a focus on stationary equipment.  This would include experience in the role of inspector, inspection supervisor, stationary equipment engineer, or similar.
  • Broad exposure to stationary equipment and life cycle issues; including specification, design, construction, inspection, and repair is preferred.

 

 

Area of Expertise, Requirements

  • Exceptional analytical skills for analyzing data, problem solving, and developing practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Detailed experience working in APM (Meridium), including detailed query building.
  • Strong knowledge of inspection work processes, inspection data management and risk-based inspection.  API 510/570/580 certifications preferred, but not required.

 

 

Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English, additional language preferred

 

Other skills

  • Management, optimization, and communication of multiple data sources using various software applications; including but not limited to SAP, PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint, Plant Manager, Intelex, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal/external customers.
  • Capable of influencing others in all positions, including management.
