Marketing Manager - Intermediates and Derivatives

Basic Function

The purpose of the job is to develop and execute sales, marketing, and pricing strategies and tactics for product lines within the Intermediates and Derivatives business unit.  Product lines can include some combination of propylene oxide and derivatives, ethylene oxide and derivatives, acetic acid, methanol, vinyl  acetate monomer, tertiary butyl hydrogen peroxide (TBHP), and isopropyl alcohol (IPA). The overall objective is to maximize short and long-term value of these product lines in the Americas region.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement business strategy and tactics for the assigned product lines.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the key product stewardship principles relative to the product line under management and ensure thorough execution of the product stewardship program.
  • Geographical area of responsibility includes North and South America. 
  • Develop market segment tactics that contribute to the business strategy. 
  • Establish and direct cross-functional market segment teams to identify growth areas for the responsible product lines. 
  • Lead the optimization of customer/product portfolio for assigned segments to maximize profitability. 
  • Develop contractual pricing strategies and partner with sales, legal, and other functional teams to negotiate and execute contracts in support of the product line strategy and with agreed LYB guidelines.
  • Partner with operations planning and supply chain to align supply and demand of products in both the short and long term planning horizon.
  • Serve as the approval authority for price negotiations within the guidelines established by the Business Director. 
  • Develop solid understanding of competitive landscape and leverage this in decision making.
  • Directly responsible for providing the analytical support and specific operational targets to achieve the economical optimal operation across our business.       
  • Ensure profitability and viability of the business within company policy and objectives
  • Facilitate and collaborate with global teams to align sales and growth strategies.
  • May serve as the global lead for the product line with the global business team. 


  • University degree required, Degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred
  • 10 + years of sales, trading, technical, marketing or commercial experience in chemical, polyolefins, or refining/energy related industries. At least two years' of sales, marketing, product management, or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • Relevant industry know-how to manage successful business strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop strong knowledge of market segments, products, applications and customers.
  • High level communication skills, written and verbal;  able to communicate with and maintain business relationships with senior management in LYB and customer organizations.
  • Ability to impact and influence across the organization, including with sales, technical service, supply chain, planning, manufacturing R&D, and finance.
