Basic Function

The purpose of role is to optimize the short term and long term profitability of the MTBE business within the Americas. The incumbent will develop and execute the sales, marketing and business development plans for MTBE to maximize the overall value and return for the Company in the Americas region, including the production from our new POTBA plant in the US Gulf Coast. The role requires previous commercial experience and/or understanding of gasoline, octane, and ethers markets, including blending economics, fuel quality and emissions.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for development and update to the strategic business plan for Oxyfuels Americas for new POTBA plant.
  • Directly responsible for MTBE sales and marketing, including premarketing and business development efforts in the Americas.  This includes investigation of new market opportunities for MTBE and other TBA derivatives to support growth.
  • Works in close coordination with Trader to develop and execute short and mid-term MTBE Americas trading plan.
  • Works closely and cooperatively with Global Oxyfuels commercial management team and advocacy team to insure alignment of business goals and objectives.
  • Ensures clear communication of business strategy to cross functional team of business services, supply chain, and other functional groups.
  • Develops and executes sales and marketing strategies with global coordination with EU and Asian marketing teams to maximize global MTBE values to the Company.
  • Develops contractual pricing strategies and negotiates contracts for MTBE
  • Supports update of logistics plans for Oxyfuels from new POTBA as well and supports business development efforts of Oxyfuels for potential tanks and terminals in new geographies.
  • Evaluate competitor activities, produce price forecasting in line with marketing objectives in order to assist in preparation of business analysis and plans
  • Ensure profitability and viability of the business within company policy and objectives

Min. Qualifications

  • University degree in Engineering,  Business Administration or relevant area with an MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years' professional experience with preference for a background including Operations, Marketing, Sales or Business Services (Optimization, Operations Planning, Business Finance, BDA or SP&T functions).  Experience with Trading is preferred. A minimum of five years commercial experience is preferred. 
  • Affinity with volatile markets and knowledgeable on hedging and trading. 
  • Familiarity with refining fundamentals and biofuels regulation/energy driven legislation is preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain business relationship with senior levels of customer management
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills
  • As part of a matrix structure, he/she should have the attitude and ability to direct and influence many functions, such as Logistics, Sales Administration, Product Planning, Manufacturing, R&D and Financial Controls.
  • Familiarity with refining fundamentals, gasoline blending and biofuels or gasoline regulations is preferred.
  • Experienced with doing business internationally with different cultures is preferred.
