Business Development Manager

Basic Function

The role is responsible for the acquisition of new customers in existing industries, the extension of supply shares at targeted underserved customers, as well as the identification of existing and emerging demand opportunities in new or underserved industries. 

The position’s goal is to drive profitable growth by extending market reach and market shares in the targeted segments. The MDM is also an active member of the established market categories teams.   

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to identify business opportunities in new and existing markets
  • Analyze and provide structured market feedback, highlighting growth opportunities for subsequent business case assessments by the Business
  • Develop a prospecting strategy to identify and engage new prospective customers and sales opportunities
  • Promote the company’s products and services understanding, anticipating, and addressing customer objectives. Master the company’s vision, mission, and product value propositions
  • Build and maintain a lead pipeline of interested prospects, planning sales management engagement as appropriate 
  • Establish contacts along various value chains to identify possible value chain collaboration opportunities, including but not limited to, sustainability advances
  • Consolidate demand plans in support of potential asset projects and capacity expansions
  • Take responsibility for building relationship with new or underserved customers and hand over to account managers according to defined processes and best practice
  • Help training entry level staff in prospecting and business development methods and practices
  • Provide regular reports to Sales and Marketing leadership

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Science/Engineering, Business Administration, or related fields
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial roles, with a proven track record of growing businesses
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Understand strategy and be able to think strategically
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to build rapport
  • Creative thinking and win-win solution orientation
  • Time management and planning skills
  • Be proactive, well organized, and able to handle work under stressful and uncertain environments with minimum guidance 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM (preferably software 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Economics, Science/Engineering, Business Administration, or related fields
  • Regional experience in customer interfacing roles
  • Familiarity with commodity chemicals 
  • Experience working in a multi-national company, managing in multicultural environments, and conducting international business
  • Industry experience in related downstream sectors
