LYB is launching a program called Connected for Value (CfV) under our strategic pillar to grow and upgrade the core to establish and scale the combined capability of Value Chain Optimization and Supply and Trading. This new initiative aims to deliver higher and more resilient integrated margins while expanding our core business capabilities within LYB.


We are seeking a highly analytical and collaborative market fundamental analyst to support the expansion of our trading activities and capabilities by developing and enhancing market analytics, price forecasting, and trading insights with a focus on petrochemical feedstocks (light and heavy). This role will be a critical partner to the trading desks and business strategy team, delivering timely insights and building structured analysis across the US and global markets.


This is a fast-paced role with high exposure and impact, requiring a blend of deep market knowledge, modeling capability, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will not only provide actionable insights but will also contribute to the commercial decision making process, upskill teams, and connect cross-functional expertise. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data and analytics framework and team that will drive profitable trading decisions within the CfV program.

A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities

  1. Market Monitoring & Analysis
    • Develop and maintain short- and long-term supply/demand models incorporating manufacturing runs, petrochemical demand, margins, and seasonal drivers
    • Track and forecast global trade flows, arbitrage opportunities, and regional balances using real-time and historical data
    • Build and maintain a dashboard of core market indicators (e.g., inventories, key ratios, and crack spreads)
    • Analyze the interplay between fundamentals and price behavior and surface opportunities for trading and risk teams

   2. Commercial Enablement

    • Partner closely with traders to evaluate deal economics, scenario planning, and market risk exposures based on fundamental drivers
    • Deliver impactful market updates, timely alerts, and strategic deep dives that inform trading decisions and position management
    • Support the development and refinement of forward-looking views that feed into trading strategy development and tactical opportunities
    • Help identify and validate emerging arbitrage opportunities or dislocations that create opportunity for the desk

Collaboration

    • Act as a key conduit of data, context, and insight to the Business Finance team, contributing to strategic narratives and budget planning processes
    • Collaborate with analysts and book leads across regions to align assumptions, share insights, and challenge models
    • Engage with external market sources (e.g., brokers, research firms) to enhance market intelligence

You Bring This Value :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in market analysis in energy, oil & gas, or petrochemicals
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into commercial insight and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams to support fast-pace commercial decision making
  • Collaborative mindset with a passion for cross-team alignment, trader engagement, and business impact

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in light feedstocks (NGLs) and/or heavy feedstocks (naphtha) — including upstream/downstream linkages and petrochemical integration
  • Strong quantitative modeling skills using Python or equivalent
  • Familiarity with market fundamentals data providers (e.g., Kpler, S&P, OPIS, ICIS, Vortexa, OilX, Genscape, Bloomberg)
  • Experience with data and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Databricks
  • Experience working in or supporting trading organizations or integrated petrochemical value chains
  • Market analysis for LP modeling
  • Exposure to cracking economics, feedstock optimization, or refinery-petchem integration modeling
  • Background in developing arb economics or understanding freight fundamentals
  • Advanced degree (degree (MBA, MSc, or equivalent)
