The Manager, Turnaround to serve as a subject matter expert in Turnaround management, planning, and execution. This role sits within the Global Asset Integrity and Turnaround (GAIT) organization and is instrumental in enabling asset teams to deliver high-performance Turnarounds safely, efficiently, and consistently.
Reporting to the Controls and Assurance Senior Manager, this role will lead and deliver Turnaround assurance activities, including readiness reviews, risk assessments, scope and schedule workshops, and post-event lessons learned across all Lines of Business in the Americas. This will also work closely with the European peer and global stakeholders to align on standards, tools, and continuous improvement opportunities.
A Day in the Life
- Lead Turnaround assurance reviews and assess compliance with the Turnaround Excellence Model.
- Facilitate scope challenge, cost risk, schedule risk, optimization, discovery risk, and lessons learned workshops.
- Communicate review findings, key risks, and recommendations to Turnaround teams, Site Managers, and leadership.
- Develop and track gap closure plans to improve Turnaround readiness and performance.
- Analyze Turnaround KPIs and benchmarking data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Share best practices and lessons learned across sites and support implementation of improvement actions.
- Train, coach, and mentor Turnaround teams and leaders on Turnaround Excellence Model requirements.
- Partner with global counterparts to align Turnaround processes, tools, and standards.
- Maintain Turnaround standards, preferred practices, guidelines, and supporting tools.
- Support continuous improvement of the Turnaround Excellence Model.
You Bring This Value
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering, construction management, or related technical field is preferred.
Work Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in a process plant or comparable environment is required. 5 or more years of prior turnaround or related work experience is strongly preferred for degreed candidates. Non-degreed candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of experience in a process plant or comparable environment. 10 or more years of prior turnaround or related work experience is strongly preferred.
Critical Competencies/Behaviors:
- In-depth knowledge of Turnaround standards, work processes, cost control, scheduling, and risk management.
- Skilled facilitator with experience leading assurance reviews, risk assessments, stakeholder workshops, and cross-functional alignment sessions.
- Strong understanding of Turnaround contracting and procurement strategies and their impact on Turnaround performance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate performance, benchmark KPIs, identify improvement opportunities, and translate insights into actionable plans.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills, with the ability to develop capabilities and transfer knowledge to less experienced Turnaround professionals.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt effectively in a dynamic operating environment.
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. SAP, Primavera, and Archer skills preferred.
Travel:
20% - 30% travel within North America and occasional international travel.
