The Manager, Employee Relations will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for leading complex, sensitive workplace matters and supporting consistent, fair, and compliant employee relations practices across the organization. This role will partner with HR Business Partners, business leaders, Legal, Compliance, and the ELR team to assess risk, conduct and oversee investigations, provide guidance on employee relations matters, and strengthen processes, tools, training, and case management practices. 

A Day in the Life

  • Leads and manages sensitive employee relations matters, including intake, fact-finding, witness interviews, evidence review, root-cause analysis, findings, recommendations, and investigation reports. 
  • Provides subject matter expertise and consultation to HR Business Partners, business leaders, Legal, Compliance, and other stakeholders on employee relations matters, performance management, policy interpretation, workplace concerns, and risk mitigation. 
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and consistent documentation of employee relations matters in NAVEX and other applicable systems. 
  • Applies employee relations expertise, company policies, labor relations principles, and applicable employment requirements to support fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes. 
  • Reviews employee relations data, trends, and case activity to identify root causes, process gaps, training needs, and opportunities for proactive support. 
  • Partners with ER Excellence Consult to develop and improve employee relations processes, tools, templates, training, and resources to promote consistency and effective execution across client groups. 
  • Coaches HR partners and leaders on effective employee relations practices, investigation standards, documentation, performance management, conflict resolution, and employee communication. 
  • Collaborates with business leaders, HR, Legal, Compliance, and the ELR team to design and implement employee relations initiatives that support LYB values, culture, compliance, and business objectives. 
  • Serves as a credible and trusted partner who influences leaders through strong judgment, practical recommendations, and deep employee relations expertise. 
  • Supports enterprise-level employee and labor relations projects, including policy updates, process improvements, training initiatives, and other strategic priorities.

  • Advanced investigation skills, including interviewing, evidence review, credibility assessment, documentation, findings, and report writing. 
  • Ability to influence, coach, and advise leaders and HR partners across all levels of a complex or matrixed organization. 
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, employee relations practices, workplace compliance, performance management, and risk mitigation. 
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends and root causes, and translate insights into process improvements, training, and proactive employee relations strategies. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation, training, and coaching. 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field required. 
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field preferred. 
  • Professional HR certification preferred, such as SHRM, HRCI, or specialized employee/labor relations certification. 

Work Experience 

  • Minimum of 10 years of Human Resources experience, including significant experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, HR compliance, or a related HR discipline. 
  • Experience leading complex, sensitive employee relations matters and advising leaders on risk, policy interpretation, performance management, corrective action, and workplace concern resolution. 
  • Experience conducting and/or overseeing workplace investigations, including intake, interviews, evidence review, findings, recommendations, documentation, and report writing. 
  • Experience supporting diverse client groups within a complex or matrixed organization and successfully partnering with business leaders, HR, Legal, and Compliance. 
  • Strong preference for experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, or other industrial environments. 
  • Labor relations experience preferred, including labor agreement interpretation, grievance and dispute resolution, corrective action, contract negotiations, and union-related matters. 

Languages

  • English, additional language preferred 

Other Skills 

  • Proficiency working independently in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, NAVEX, and other HR systems. 
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters, prioritize work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to develop clear guidance, procedures, templates, training materials, and communications that support consistent employee relations practices.
