Basic Function

Supply Chain is a customer-focused Center of Excellence providing industry-leading service while delivering differential value to the business, today and into the future.  We separate our Supply Chain functions into several areas; these include logistics, customer fulfillment, services, trade compliance, and support for business processes and systems. 

As a member of our dynamic Supply Chain team, you will play a critical role in helping us supply our products to a global customer base. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership to Supply Chain, business units, functional units, manufacturing and management in the areas of transportation regulatory issues and leading programs to ensure compliance and safe transportation of LyondellBasell products and transportation assets. You will also be responsible for leading major Supply Chain projects and initiatives for service improvement or cost reduction. During a typical day, you will act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Customers, Logistics Service Providers (LSP), LYB facility assessments related to the handling of LYB products.

This position reports to the Commercial Logistics Manager and is located at our North American Headquarters in Downtown Houston. The position offers a competitive base salary, bonus, 401K matching, generous benefits package, pension plan, parking subsidy and employee discounts.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage areas of transportation regulatory issues and leading programs to ensure compliance and safe transportation of LyondellBasell products and transportation assets.
  • Act as a main point of contact for Supply Chain Management teams, Legal, Commercial, Trade Compliance, Product Stewardship, Technical Services, Customers, Logistics Service Providers (LSP), and LYB facilities regarding transportation/distribution incident response and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to transportation and distribution for LyondellBasell in the Americas. 
  • Train plant personnel on best practices in transportation of LyondellBasell products.
  • Evaluate, report and assist initiatives on a wide range of supply chain activities, including commercial, operating, and emergency response decisions
  • Develop long range plans and budgets, performance commitment, goals and KPI’s in logistics compliance.
  • Provide guidance to projects related to the handling of our hazardous products at LyondellBasell, Customer, and LSP facilities.
  • Clearly understand classification of dangerous goods for LyondellBasell, including maintaining the Dangerous Goods module of SAP.
  • Represent LyondellBasell on various industry association committees such as DGAC, AAR, DOT, FMCSA and FRA.
  • Monitor and assist emerging issues or changing logistics compliance regulations; provide issue analysis, response strategy and execution plans for the issues identified.
  • Assist the implementation for improvements to processes, management systems and procedures for Supply Chain that will support global compliance (BOLs, MSDSs, Technical Bulletins, etc.).
  • Operate with a solution-oriented mindset with regard to process improvements; Assist with change implementation for extended system improvements or other logistics projects.
  • Partner with peers to provide solutions, guidance to resolve logistics business related problems.
  • Model LyondellBasell core competencies with internal and external customers/suppliers.

Min. Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years’ relevant, industry related experience.
  • Ability to influence both peers and superiors across LYB to ensure transportation regulatory compliance in the Americas.
  • Must possess verbal, written and presentation skills consistent with client group that includes Senior Managers and Executives.
  • Ability to identify and close gaps in logistics compliance, cost reduction, service and articulate/increase the value of logistics compliance function in LYB.
  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Will consider candidates with a High School Diploma that have at least 10 years’ relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • This role is expected to travel and/or attend external events up to 20%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience in terminal or plant operations.
  • Advanced expertise in regulatory compliance of logistics processes (i.e. DOT, IMDG, etc.)
  • Ability to classify LYB products in appropriate hazmat categories; SAP DG module experience a plus.
  • Extensive understanding of multiple manufacturing and business product development areas for LYB products.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle complex regulatory issues.
  • Able to maintain professionalism and prioritize responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with extended tools.
  • Experience with ERP software such as SAP is strongly desired.
  • Licenses & Certifications Preferred: DOT, IMDG, IATA Training, Apollo Root Cause Team Leader Certification, OE Audit Team Lead Training.
