The Lead IT Auditor role is a senior position that leverages advanced audit methodologies and emerging technology expertise to evaluate and enhance the organization's IT control environment, digital transformation initiatives, and technology risk landscape. This role combines traditional IT audit capabilities with modern technology assessment skills, including artificial intelligence governance, cloud security, and digital innovation assurance.
Working with minimal supervision, the position leads medium to high complexity technology audits and provides strategic insights on digital risks and opportunities across the enterprise. A Day In The Life:
Audit Leadership & Execution
- Lead complex IT audits covering processes, infrastructure, ITGCs, and implementation reviews
- Develop audit objectives based on business and technical risks
- Coordinate audit planning, workpaper review, evaluation, and reporting
- Ensure full understanding of data flows, security policies, and system security controls
- Optimize audit team resources and timelines for successful delivery
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for audit effectiveness
- Contribute to annual IT audit risk assessment and planning
Technology Risk Focus
- Assess cloud infrastructure, applications, and emerging platforms
- Evaluate AI/ML governance frameworks, including GenAI implementations
- Review cybersecurity posture and zero-trust architectures
- Examine DevSecOps practices and digital transformation initiatives
- Monitor data governance, privacy, and sovereignty compliance
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as role model and mentor for less experienced staff
- Coordinate with diverse stakeholders across audit areas and processes
- Build effective relationships with IT business staff and management
- Identify and share best practices for cost reduction and efficiency
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and team members
- Balance auditee concerns with independence requirements
- Demonstrate poise, tact, and maturity in all interactions

Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of IT operations, cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture
- Expertise in modern technology stacks and cloud platforms
- Strong knowledge of frameworks: COBIT 2024, ISO 27000, NIST, CSA Guidelines
- Proficiency in internal audit standards and risk assessment methodologies
Technical & Analytics Capabilities
- Advanced proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools
- Experience with GRC platforms and automation tools
- Programming skills for analysis (Python/R, SQL)
- ERP systems knowledge (SAP preferred)
- Continuous control monitoring expertise

Education:
- Bachelor degree is required, with a major in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or other related business degree.
Work Experience:
- Typically, 4-8 years of progressive IT audit or technology risk experience, with demonstrable expertise in independently evaluating complex IT controls, business processes, and financial systems. Strong background in technology risk assessments and control framework implementation required. Must show proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and complex audit engagements.
- Big 4 consulting or audit experience preferred. Experience implementing innovative audit methodologies and leading digital transformation or emerging technology risk assessments (AI/ML, cloud, data governance) is highly valued.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Advanced degree and/or professional certification such as CISA, CISSP, CISM, CFE, CIA or other is preferred.
