Position Summary
LyondellBasell is seeking a bright, energetic Rotating Equipment Engineer to join the team. This role supports the Equistar Pipeline group (EPO) and is part of the Maintenance Group supporting pipeline operation and reliability improvement efforts. Working in a team environment, it carries responsibility for applying reliability best practices, optimizing preventive maintenance tasks, and supporting maintenance activities. The position interacts with other site groups including area engineers, capital projects, corporate technical networks/peers, and third party vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve equipment reliability and performance. This position is based at the EPO Clear Lake facility in Houston, Texas in southeast Harris County, but routine travel to equipment repair shops and pipeline sites/facilities across southeast Texas is expected (approximately 25-50%).
Roles & Responsibilities
• Monitor Equipment: Review how equipment is performing and suggest improvements.
• Analyze Failures: Determine why equipment isn’t meeting standards and align with others on the root cause.
• Data Analysis: Use data to solve recurring problems affecting pipeline operations, like capacity, quality, cost, safety, and compliance issues.
• Incident Investigations: Support incident investigations.
• Identify Issues: Spot problematic equipment, understand why it failed, and create plans to fix it.
• Cost/Benefit Analysis: Evaluate solutions to reduce equipment costs and increase availability; decide whether to repair, redesign, or replace equipment.
• Technical Support: Provide expertise for designing and installing new projects and equipment, and modifying existing ones.
• Team Participation: Join the Reliability Improvement Team to ensure equipment and processes are reliable and maintainable.
• Standards Input: Give feedback on engineering standards and maintenance procedures.
• Peer Consultation: Work with colleagues at your site and across the company.
• Equipment Care: Support proper equipment operation and maintenance:
o Review condition monitoring and operator reports.
o Maintain procedures for starting, operating, and shutting down equipment.
o Help troubleshoot equipment issues.
o Develop maintenance tasks and implement them in the management system.
• Maintenance Support: Ensure quality maintenance and repairs:
o Review Preventive Maintenance (PM) compliance.
o Develop work scopes and inspection plans for repairs.
o Use non-destructive testing to find problems.
o Support internal and external equipment repairs and ensure proper documentation.
o Guide field and shop repairs.
• Maintenance Strategies: Develop and refine strategies for equipment maintenance:
o Ensure PM tasks add value.
o Check compliance with Predictive Maintenance (PdM) tasks like oil analysis and vibration monitoring.
o Maintain accurate Equipment Master Data.
o Populate equipment Bill of Material (BOM) with correct parts.
o Ensure accurate Material Master (MM) data for spare parts.
Min. Qualifications
Education:
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Work Experience:
• Typically, a minimum of 4 years of owner operator/operator downstream experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries is required

• English
Skills:
• Pipeline experience is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization, as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
• The successful candidate must exhibit an understanding of business drivers, Management of Change (MOC) requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow (SAP experience is preferred).
• The individual must have or develop basic proficiency in the following areas:
o Basic understanding of industry codes and standards (i.e. ASME, API, ANSI)
o Rotating Equipment (pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, blowers, gearboxes)
