Basic Function

LyondellBasell  is seeking a bright, energetic Rotating Equipment Engineer to join the team. This role supports the Equistar Pipeline group (EPO) and is part of the Maintenance Group supporting pipeline operation and reliability improvement efforts. Working in a team environment, it carries responsibility for implementing reliability best practices, developing and optimizing preventive maintenance tasks, and supporting maintenance activities.  The position interacts with other site groups including area engineers, capital projects, corporate technical networks/peers, and third party vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve equipment reliability and performance. This position is based at the EPO Clear Lake facility in Houston Texas in southeast Harris County, but routine travel to equipment repair shops and pipeline sites/facilities across southeast Texas is expected (approximately 25-50%).

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Monitors equipment performance and makes improvement recommendations
•    Analyzes root cause for equipment failure to meet performance standards
•    Applies data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect pipeline operations, including: capacity, quality, cost, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance issues
•    Leads and/or participates in incident investigations 
•    Identifies “bad actors,” determines causes and consequences of failure, evaluates potential solutions, and develops action plans for remediation.
•    Analyzes cost/benefit of potential solutions to minimize equipment life cycle cost and maximize asset availability; performs economic analysis of repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions
•    Provides technical support/expertise for the design and installation of projects and new equipment/assets, as well as modification of existing equipment 
•    Participates in interdisciplinary Reliability Improvement Team and guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, controls, and safety systems.
•    Provide input for requested deviations to engineering standards, guidelines, and maintenance and reliability procedures.
•    Consults with peers at the site and across the company
•    Provides technical support and oversight for the proper care and operation of equipment
    o    Reviews operations-specific condition monitoring compliance
    o    Reviews operator equipment rounds exception reporting, tracking, and follow-up 
    o    Creates and maintains equipment startup, operation, and shutdown procedures
    o    Assist operations with troubleshooting equipment performance issues 
    o    Develops maintenance and operations task details and implements in appropriate execution management system
•    Provides technical support for the proper maintenance and quality repair of equipment 
    o    Reviews and assesses Preventive Maintenance (PM) program compliance 
    o    Develops and maintains work scopes, Inspection and Test Plans, Shop Surveillance Requirements, for equipment maintenance/repairs 
    o    Utilizes appropriate non-destructive testing methodologies to identify problems
    o    Supports equipment repairs both (both internal and external repair facilities), and ensures quality repair documentation (as-found and return-to-service conditions) 
    o    Provides guidance in the field for our millwrights and shop repairs.
•    Develops, monitors, and refines Equipment Maintenance Strategies
    o    Verifies Preventive Maintenance tasks are value-added
    o    Assesses Predictive Maintenance (PdM) compliance (oil analysis, vibration monitoring, etc.)
    o    Ensures Equipment Master Data accuracy and completeness
    o    Populates equipment Bill of Material (BOM) with materials (stock and non-stock) in correct quantities in alignment with spare parts strategy
    o    Ensures Material Master (MM) data accuracy and completeness for spare parts

Min. Qualifications

•    BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
•    Minimum of 5 years of owner operator/operator downstream experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries is preferred 
•    Pipeline experience is preferred.
•    Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization, as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
•    The successful candidate must exhibit an understanding of business drivers, Management of Change (MOC) requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow (SAP experience is preferred).
•    The individual must have or develop basic proficiency in the following areas:
    o    Basic understanding of industry codes and standards (i.e. ASME, API, ANSI)
    o    Rotating Equipment (pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, blowers, gearboxes)
