As the Director of Global Mechanical Engineering, you will provide global strategic leadership in the area of mechanical engineering to support the achievement of LYB’s business, manufacturing and capital investment goals. You will lead a team of 25 technical experts who are responsible for the safe and reliable function of the rotating equipment, stationary equipment and fired equipment assets. You will also own the engineering standards program and supplier qualification work processes.
You will work closely with manufacturing and other corporate partners to identify, develop and implement value enhancement opportunities that drive continuous performance improvement. You will leverage data, intelligence and best practices to optimize the performance of our assets and technologies. You will also ensure alignment and engagement of stakeholders throughout the organization and external peers.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
As the Director of Global Mechanical Engineering, you will have the opportunity to:
- Use data and other intelligence to identify, develop and implement strategic value enhancement opportunities that drive continuous performance improvement within manufacturing
- Lead the GAIT Mechanical organization to provide effective technical leadership, execution of core roles and delivery of annual goals/objectives
- Engage and influence internal and external stakeholders through formal and informal platforms and networks to identify and deliver effective strategic improvement plans
- Ensure relevant Technical Networks and related Task Forces function effectively and deliver value to the business
- Provide turnaround technical assurance for all major turnarounds and ensure optimal asset performance and reliability
- Validate capital portfolio prioritization for machinery and fired equipment investment and support the execution of capital projects
- Implement and deliver Excellence Models across the manufacturing base and drive operational excellence and best practices
- Administer learning from experience processes and ensure continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- Manage and administer Global Engineering Standards and ensure compliance and alignment with codes, regulations and industry standards
- Administer supplier qualification program for technical materials and services and ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
Min. Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in the petrochemical industry, with at least 8 years in a leadership role
- A proven track record of delivering results in mechanical engineering, asset management, reliability, safety and operational excellence
- A strong knowledge of engineering standards, codes, regulations and best practices
- A high level of technical competence and problem-solving skills in complex and challenging situations
- A strategic mindset and a visionary approach to drive innovation and transformation
- A collaborative and influential leadership style that fosters teamwork, trust and accountability
- A global perspective and a cultural awareness that enables effective communication and relationship building across diverse regions and functions
- A willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
