In this high-impact role, you’ll lead a team of 11–12 professionals and serve as a key advisor to senior leadership—driving financial strategy, operational excellence, and enterprise-wide value creation.

 

This is more than a finance role, it’s a seat at the table where decisions are made. The function has high exposure to the Company’s leadership team and other senior executives and is expected to be highly collaborative across HR, R&D, manufacturing, and corporate finance functions to influence outcomes and deliver measurable results. This role will have a strong focus on driving strategic initiatives, cohesion across I&D Finance globally, continuous improvement and championing enterprise-wide initiative to add value.

A Day in the Life

The Director Business Finance, I&D is responsible for the financial, business and commercial support and controllership activities related to LyondellBasell’s Intermediates & Derivatives business segment.  

  • Ensures finance support and effective analysis and insights to enable business and management reviews and drives business responsiveness to changing market opportunities/conditions.
    • Assure forecast accuracy and accountable action plans are in place to mitigate risk.
    • Accountable for ensuring quality deliverables across the segment and delivering key business insights to leadership both periodic and ad-hoc.
    • Develop and monitor metrics to track segment-specific and company-wide trends, identify opportunities, clearly communicate recommendations and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
    • Drive business ownership of P&L, forecast, free cash flow and shareholder value mentality with support of Segment Leadership.
    • Find profitability leaks in our business operations and assure accountable action plans are in place to assure maximum margin realization.
    • Assure critical decisions are financially based.
    • Assure profitability is maximized both short and long term.
    • Assure cash flow is maximized, working capital optimization and effective fixed asset utilization.
    • Assure effective investment analytics.
    • Accountable to lead the Long-Range Planning process
    • Ensure Asset Strategies are appropriately linked to Business Strategies
    • Ensure VEP activities are properly accounted for and reflected in Wave.
  • Communicate a clear leadership message related to LyondellBasell’s values, safety, business ethics & the law, and financial controls.
  • Maintain independence in view and assessment of the business control environment.
  • Provide credible challenge towards business partners and be recognized as a trusted advisor on strategic analysis and on business and commercial decision support.
  • Responsible for the development of Management and Board presentations and materials.
  • Considered a critical strategic and business facing role for Global Finance.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Accountable for providing business support on strategic projects and modelling of cash flow returns, by cross functional collaboration of Strategy and Planning, SP&T, Manufacturing and the Business.
  • Accountable to lead Performance Plan Process and ensure consistency in regional and global assumptions, prioritization of growth projects and scenario planning.
  • Drive forecasting excellence on business results and segment free cash flow.
  • Proactively engage with the business on working capital management and through analysis identifies opportunities to improve cash working capital position.
  • Leverage technology and automation and be an ambassador to fully utilize the OneStream platform in the organization.
  • Challenger of status quo and driver of change.

 

Lead and develop talent

  • Designs the organization to create “complete” jobs with strong accountability and development opportunities.
  • Positions talent for maximum impact on results and growth and development
  • Creates an environment where talent can be developed through effective performance management and talent evaluation, and that individuals are motivated and positioned to realize their potential.
  • Invests in the growth and development of their direct and indirect reports and other identified talent in their organization.  Is engaged in personal development.

You Bring This Value

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Engineering with adequate finance experience.
  • MBA, CPA, Chartered Accountant or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Typically, 15+ years of finance experience  and demonstrated experience in team leadership within complex, multi-entity global environments. Proven ability to lead strategic financial planning, drive business performance, and influence executive decision-making.
  • Direct experience managing a segment or company level budget and forecasting process preferred.
  • Strong financial modeling skills are required creating/managing a forward-looking financial view, considering key business drivers.
  • Experience with LYB’s ERP and reporting systems. Experience with large scale system implementation and/or process improvement projects are considered a plus.
  • Broad experience in the petrochemical industry and/or adjacent industries.
  • Understanding of business performance drivers in the chemical industry
