Basic Function

The DT Director, Olefins and Polyolefins (O&P) Manufacturing, Health, Safety, and the Environment (HSE) / Operational Excellence (OE) is the trusted advisor on digital technology in the manufacturing space for the Operational Excellence & HSE business unit and the business units focused on manufacturing of Olefins and Polyolefins, enabling decision making and business value realization through digital technology, in alignment to LYB’s strategic priorities. The DT Director of O&P Manufacturing, HSE/OE will manage the outcomes, innovation pipeline, and end-to-end delivery of digital technology for the technology portfolio of the Operational Excellence & HSE business unit and the business units focused on manufacturing of Olefins and Polyolefins, including operations and lifecycle management.

 

DT Director of O&P Manufacturing, HSE/OE reports to the Digital Technology Business Interface – Advanced Manufacturing and has responsibility for the Operational Excellence & HSE business unit and the business units focused on manufacturing of Olefins and Polyolefins to define, influence, shape, manage, evaluate, and prioritize DT initiatives to ensure they are operationally executable and aligned to both the enterprise and the departmental strategic objectives.  The position will manage a team of DT team members to ensure the successful delivery of engagements and programs focused around various DT Strategies (Technology Lifecycle Management, Business Process Standardization, Standards, Master Data, Governance, Change Management, etc…).  The objectives will be to identify, prioritize, and execute those programs and solutions that will yield the optimum gain in terms of revenue, process improvement, productivity, and benefit to the corporation. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • This role will partner with the functional teams to develop strategic DT roadmaps, short- and long-term initiatives and project plans and identify technology trends and opportunities. The position interfaces frequently with senior leaders and will build and maintain relationships and interface regularly with strategic suppliers at all levels.  The position will be responsible for the success of DT initiatives across the Operational Excellence & HSE business unit and the business units focused on manufacturing of Olefins and Polyolefins.
  • Own business relationships with Business Units and Functional groups (inclusive of demand management). Work within DT organization to ensure expectations are met. 
  • Single point of contact for: issue resolution, DT Operations requests, software & licensing requests, cybersecurity and digital solutions; Collaborate with others within DT to meet customer needs.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to co-create and sustain multi-year strategic roadmaps & ST innovation pipeline required to achieve business goals with a focus on VEP as part of strategy, demand funnel and way of working/operating model.
  • Identify & develop multi-year roadmaps and investment goals which are aligned to enterprise-wide, long-term business strategies and objectives and which address  technology lifecycle including obsolesce, risk and emerging technologies. Work with Enterprise Architecture to ensure the strategic business roadmaps are underpinned by appropriate digital technology. 
  • Enable forward looking investment planning for key budget cycles and ensure unplanned project requests and enhancements are guided through the DT Demand Intake Process.
  • Collaborate with Strategy & Planning Manager on DT Manufacturing team and others on DT team to enable consistency between Manufacturing BI and other BI. Collaborate closely with multiple parties from corporate services, LYB (across the company) and other partners. 
  • Partner with business stakeholders to ensure Digital Technology is an integrated component of asset, site, and business strategies.
  • Partner with global business partners to provide tactical and strategic technology services and solutions that align with the respective business strategy.
  • Be accountable for consulting and/or project teams to deliver engagements, including: mission and DT requirements, business justification models, business use cases, reengineered process and/or workflows, program plans and roadmaps, organizational designs, change management and communication plans, business and technical architectures, and business capabilities and solutions.
  • Oversee the management and implementation of mid and large scale projects, ensuring time, quality and budget goals are met, while still delivering capabilities that align to what the business needs currently and in the future.
  • In alignment with Strategy & Planning Manager and rest of DT, establish metrics required to measure DT performance and recommend the go-forward strategy to address performance gaps.
  • Implement strategies that will deliver appropriate level of technology to the business in a cost-effective manner.
  • Identify opportunities for global process consolidation and productivity improvements.
  • Inform business leadership on “accelerators” that can be leveraged for information, systems, & emerging technologies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships including communication, report delivery, project management and strategy development. Manage/partner with multiple level contacts and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Manage the enhancement of systems to allow the business segments to lead in their industry.
  • Anticipate and alert the senior executive team of financial issues and opportunities within the designated business units.

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in information technology, engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Typically, 12+ years of relevant experience. Direct experience in digital technology or experience in manufacturing, engineering, HSE, R&D, capital projects or related domain. 
  • Experience in forming strategic partnerships with technology and business partners in a collaborative manner.
  • Managing multiple concurrent initiatives and significant experience in the matrix management of resources across multiple groups.
  • Broad and extensive business management skills and knowledge.
  • Successful implementations of complex technical solutions including manufacturing systems/processes.
  • Understanding of annual investment budget for BUs & functions (projects and business applications).
  • Ability to interpret technology and market trends as a foundation for technology and product roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding and appropriate use of financial processes and techniques and proven business case development skills, including: experience with both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with solution, information, and application architects and infrastructure engineers to identify, design, and implement highly complex, end-to-end solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Respected leader with demonstrated ability to influence colleagues at multiple levels.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Skilled in the full client delivery lifecycle, including: business planning; data analysis; process analysis and design; business and functional requirements analysis; program roadmap creation; design; build; test; implement and operate.
  • Proven track record of delivering client programs and projects, highlighted by strong: management skills - including planning and estimating; delivery and deliverable creation; scope management; risk and issue management; and resources and budget management.
