Basic Function

This position is part of the Enterprise Platforms group reporting into the Technology Operations department. The purpose of this position is to design, implement and support database platforms including SQL Server, Oracle and Azure SQL.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing technology frameworks and standard architectures that enable the design, implementation, operation and support of information technology systems and infrastructure, and that provide functional environments for technology prototyping, development, integrated testing, training, and production.   
  • Responsible for managing technology lifecycle programs that ensure consistent and reliable systems and infrastructure performance, and that are in alignment with Information Technology strategies and goals and in compliance with technology partner release schedules and support models.  
  • Responsible for maintaining and driving technology roadmaps and future landscapes, and contributes to Information Technology strategy development and planning.  
  • Solicits technical and analytical advice internal and external to Information Technology, and serves as a resource for technology analysis within Information Technology. 
  • Responsible for defining standards and operational requirements for L2-L5 database administration and support teams. Includes acting as the highest technical escalation for critical database platform incidents. 
  • Responsible for managing the performance of 3rd party technical support partners. 
  • Responsible for ensuring overall database platform license compliance and defining license budget requirements.  
  • Responsible for ensuring that activities, individual, peer, and client, are conducted in compliance with Enterprise and Information Technology policies, guidelines, procedures, work processes, and internal controls, and in alignment with Enterprise and Information Technology missions, goals, and strategies.  
  • Responsible for actively participating with management and peers in the mentoring and development of less experienced individuals. 

Min. Qualifications

This is an upper-level position requiring either a degreed professional who possesses a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or Engineering with a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience, or a non-degreed professional with over fifteen (15) years relevant experience. This individual must demonstrate strong technical expertise and knowledge in each of the following technology disciplines: 

  • Relational database design and administration 
  • Microsoft SQL Server database administration and operational support 
  • Oracle database administration and operational support 
  • Microsoft Azure SQL administration and operational support 
  • Designing and implementing high availability database solutions and database recovery solutions 
  • Database performance tuning and analysis 
  • Database administration automation, stored procedure & trigger development, DTS package/SISS development, and database security 
  • Database security administration 
  • Knowledge of network communications, server hardware configuration, and database server operational support and maintenance processes and procedures required 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of database clustering technologies and alternative disk storage solutions an advantage 
  • Monitoring tools such as Microsoft SCOM, HP BSM, etc. 
  • Experience working for a chemical company
