The Counsel, Sustainability & Corporate Affairs role is part of the legal team that provides support to LyondellBasell’s sustainability strategy, government relations and corporate communications function. In this role, you will focus on sustainability communications, serving as the lead lawyer supporting corporate communications, and providing advice and counsel on related sustainability strategies and advocacy efforts.
Day in the Life:
- Serve as the lead lawyer supporting corporate communications, including reviewing marketing, speeches, press releases and holding statements, and coordinating other legal support as necessary
- Provide subject matter expertise on environmental marketing claims laws, including tracking developments, providing research and guidance on specific questions, and updating and delivering training
- Provide legal support for government relations on marketing claims and related topics, including assessing impacts of proposals, reviewing and providing input on advocacy strategies and positions, and providing advice and counsel on comments and other submittals
- Review and support the development of internal engagement and training materials around sustainability topics
- Provide legal support for sustainability disclosures, ratings and reporting
- Provide legal support for government subsidy and funding opportunities aligned to the company’s sustainability strategy
- Support the development of sustainability strategies
- Assist in the negotiation and drafting of contracts with various vendors and partners of the Sustainability & Corporate Affairs organization
You Bring This Value:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Member in good standing with a state bar
- Current admission or eligibility for admission to the Texas Bar
- Bachelor’s degree in sustainability or environmental field is preferred
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience practicing law
- Experience in the petrochemical industry is preferred
- Legal work experience demonstrating strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, and analytical skills
- Experience advising on environmental marketing claims laws, voluntary company disclosures and sustainability communications is preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and stakeholder management skills; ability to work across functions to achieve results
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a dynamic environment
- Solution oriented and a positive mindset
- Some travel required
- Desire to contribute to circular and low carbon transformation
