LyondellBasell is advancing its sustainability commitments and the execution of its ambitious climate strategies and targets. As a Climate Specialist, you will lead LyondellBasell’s engagement in the development of standards of relevance to our climate strategy. You will engage with, directly or indirectly through relevant industry groups, the GHG Protocol, the Science Based Target Initiative, and other similar entities to help shape standards and industry guidance that relate to our overall climate approach and transition plan.
This position is part of the Low Carbon Demand Team within the Global Sustainability department. The role reports to the Manager of Low Carbon Demand
A Day in the Life:
- Represent LyondellBasell at sectoral and other external engagement initiatives that aim to shape and influence standards and industry guidance on the definition of science-based targets
- Manage our internal Center of Excellence on GHG accounting, and engage with the GHG Protocol, directly or indirectly through industry groups such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, CEFIC, ACC, etc., to develop recommendations on accounting rules that support LyondellBasell’s sustainability imperatives
- Co-create recommendations with internal stakeholders, including the Product Sustainability Team, to align on direction and accounting rules between corporate and product accounting.
- Support the execution of LyondellBasell’s strategy across scopes 1, 2, and 3, working with internal stakeholders, including our Net Zero Transition Team, business segments, procurement, and supply chain, to ensure progress against our interim and long-term targets
- Provide support to ongoing activities related to our Carbon Value Creation and Capture (CVCC) initiative as well as other broader climate initiatives (e.g., LCA, risk management).
- Support advocacy and communication efforts that will help accelerate progress and amplify our efforts to stakeholders.
You Bring This Value :
- University degree in engineering, science, business, or sustainability, master's degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in GHG accounting, with experience in auditing and GHG inventory verification a plus
- Solid understanding of carbon accounting and climate target setting methodologies (GHG Protocol standards and technical guidances, SBTi standards)
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, but also a team player with a strong work ethic, humility, a can-do attitude and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, together with solid stakeholder management skills.
- Fluency in English, additional language a plus
