The Cathodic Protection Specialist provides governance, technical leadership, and regulatory oversight for all corrosion control activities across regulated gas and liquid pipeline systems in Texas and Louisiana. This role ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, maintains program procedures, drives continuous improvement, drives the prioritization for  corrosion control spend, and coordinates execution through Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and contracted service providers. 

This position has no direct reports; instead, it leads through influence, technical authority, and structured program management. 

A Day in the Life

Regulatory Oversight & Compliance 

  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal corrosion control regulations for gas and liquid pipelines. 
  • Serve as the technical authority for regulated corrosion control activities, including annual CP surveys, Close Interval Surveys (CIS), DC Voltage Gradient (DCVG) surveys, AC Voltage Gradient (ACVG) surveys, and current requirement test for new rectifiers. 
  • Participate in and support all Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) O&M audits, ensuring documentation, procedures, and records meet regulatory expectations. 
  • Maintain and update cathodic protection and interference control procedures to reflect current operations, regulatory changes, and industry best practices. 

Program Governance & Technical Leadership 

  • Own the CP/IC program strategy, annual plan, and performance objectives. 
  • Develop and maintain CP dashboards to assess system health, identify deficiencies, and communicate status to leadership. 
  • Provide technical guidance to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering on corrosion control requirements, troubleshooting, and corrective actions. 
  • Coordinate CP/IC activities across internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities, schedules, and resource needs. 
  • Lead root-cause investigations for corrosion-related issues and interference problems; coordinate corrective actions with internal teams, other operators, or vendors. 
  • Participates in data integration with ILI, third party damage, AOC, pipeline repairs to help develop areas of concern for remediation. 
  • Participates in pipeline risk assessments and P&M Measures. 

Execution Coordination  

  • Plan and prioritize corrosion control projects, ensuring timely execution through Operations, Maintenance, and contracted services. 
  • Responsible for providing guidance to oversee testing and remediation activities for shorted casings, damaged test leads, insulating flange issues, malfunctioning ground beds, and rectifiers. 
  • Review CP field data, validate interpretations, and ensure deficiencies are addressed through documented corrective actions. 
  • Coordinate contractor work, including bid packages, specifications, and field execution, ensuring adherence to program standards. 

Program Documentation & Budget Stewardship 

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready CP/IC documentation, including procedures, survey records, remediation logs, and contractor reports. 
  • Monitor program expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and provide input on annual budget proposals. 
  • Prepare or support preparation of contract drawings, specifications, and bid invitations for corrosion control projects. 

Industry Engagement & Continuous Improvement 

  • Maintain professional relationships with AMPP and regional corrosion coordinating committees. 
  • Benchmark program practices against industry standards and incorporate improvements into CP/IC governance. 
  • Support training and knowledge transfer across Operations and Maintenance to strengthen corrosion control competency. 

Safety & Field Presence 

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety and the safety of company assets and employees. 
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits as needed to validate CP/IC system performance and support troubleshooting. 

You Bring This Value

Required 

  • Minimum 10 years cathodic protection experience  
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations related to pipeline corrosion control. 
  • Strong technical expertise in cathodic protection systems, interference control, and corrosion monitoring. AMP CP Level II  
  • Experience with both Gas and Liquids Pipelines 
  • Ability to interpret CP data, diagnose issues, and recommend corrective actions. 
  • Experience with CP Surveys, CIS, DCVG, and related diagnostic techniques. 
  • Familiarity with RRC O&M audit processes and DOT Part 192 corrosion control requirements. 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. 

Preferred 

  • Proficiency with Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) or similar corrosion control software. 
  • Experience designing corrosion monitoring and CP systems.
