Basic Function

 

LyondellBasell is looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Treasury and Finance professional to join our Treasury team based in Houston, Texas and reporting directly to the Treasurer.  The Assistant Treasurer will oversee financial risk management, treasury operations and strategic initiatives.  The ideal candidate will have experience leading Treasury Operations of a multinational company, have a strong understanding of risk management principles and have experience in other core Finance functions (M&A, FP&A, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Consulting or Banking).  The Assistant Treasurer will lead a global organization of ~24 people and will support the Treasurer on various strategic initiatives. 

Roles & Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to ~24 individuals across multiple geographies
    • Visibly foster an organizational culture of inclusiveness and diversity of thought 
    • Make improvements in succession planning, depth of talent bench and performance management
  • Ensure activities are following Treasury policies, accounting guidelines and controls 
  • Work cross functionally with Treasury, Accounting, Tax, Legal, SP&T and other stakeholders to accomplish tasks
  • Be a thought leader and pro-actively seek out areas to add value


Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead an enterprise wide working capital initiative to generate sustainable cash flow improvement and instill a cash mindset throughout the organization
  • Steer treasury due diligence for M&A initiatives
  • Drive formulation of senior management and board level presentations
  • Support the Treasurer on other strategic projects as they arise


Treasury Operations—Partner with the Director of Global Treasury Ops to:

  • Manage LYB’s global liquidity strategy, treasury operations technology roadmap and organizational alignment
  • Oversee global cash management functions, including forecasting, reporting, management of in-house banks/payment factories, and trade finance activities/instruments
  • Work with key stakeholders to transform financial processes and drive automation
  • Manage the short-term cash investment portfolio and commercial paper program, including policies, procedures and execution


Financial Risk Management—Partner with the Director of FRM EAI and Director of FRM Americas to:

  • Provide oversight and management of the Foreign exchange and Commodity risk management programs
  • Operate a fully integrated process for financial risk management, including risk identification, hedging options, execution tactics, accounting considerations and reporting

  • FX hedging portfolio $0.5-$1B
  • Debt service administration  $16B+ portfolio
  • Intercompany Lending portfolio  $35B+

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in a multi-national corporation, investment bank or financial services organization with specific experience managing global treasury operations, experience in various strategic finance roles and a strong comfort level of financial risk management.  A broad set of experience across abovementioned is a big plus
  • Balanced professional who can drive strategy but also roll up their sleeves and deliver; motivation and drive to take on more outside of Treasury in the future
  • Ability to influence, build, and motivate a team to produce quality results in an efficient manner
  • Prior experience managing foreign exchange exposure is a plus
  • Experience with SAP or another sophisticated enterprise system and modern treasury management systems
  • Knowledgeable of SOX requirements and ensuring compliance with SOX controls
  • Excellent communicator through all levels of the Company with the ability to conceptualize and influence the outcome of complex issues
  • Experience with project management and demonstrated success overseeing multiple projects to completion
  • Must have a growth mindset and sound business judgement
  • Strong PC skills and attention to detail: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or related field
  • Masters of Business Administration or equivalent degree is a big plus

 

Licenses & Certifications:

  • CFA or CPA is a big plus

 

Languages:

  • English required; any other languages (particularly Dutch, German, Italian, French or Spanish) a plus
