The Polyolefins Asset Manager is responsible for maximizing the profitability and growth of HDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, PP, Wire & Cable and Catalloy businesses by optimizing polymer reactor asset utilization and product profitability across over 25 reactors in four states. This position is focused internally on manufacturing cost reduction, efficiency improvements, short term production planning management, and long range asset planning,
A Day in the Life
Product profitability & optimization
- Determines economic asset balancing within divisions to maximize profitability and manufacturing line utilization.
- Leads rationalization decisions and establishes recommendations on product deletions, specification changes, etc. by focusing on reactor capabilities versus product profitability.
- Works with Manufacturing and S&OP to review product mix, product quality, and run rates to optimize reactor product wheels for maximum profitability.
- Insures products produced are consistent with manufacturing capabilities.
- Shapes commercial strategy with business leadership on product strategies to grow, harvest, maintain or delete.
- Maintains and utilizes spreadsheet optimization tools using Monte Carlo simulation software.
- Owns the long term value optimization of the polymers assets, including responsibility for the optimization models, including the optimization tools used for inventory and product wheel management.
- Evaluation potential optimization tools integrated with the operations planning tool
- Reviews and approves requests for customer product specifications by analyzing the profitability/manufacturing impact associated with each specification
- Responsible for stewarding and approving internal product specifications and their associated commercial and industry specifications.
Asset Utilization
- Allocates capacity among products/applications to balance profitability with customer service requirements.
- Determines optimum reactor utilization strategies by working closely with Sales, Commercial Management, and Manufacturing.
- Proposes and maintains medium-term and long-term asset loading plans for the relevant NA assets by balancing the business product needs, manufacturing capabilities, R&D developments and changes in supply patterns to reach an optimal economic solution for LyondellBasell .
- Coordinates the efforts needed to timely and successfully implement product slate simplification in the plants .
- Sets product level inventory targets based on production wheel and average customer demand.
- Monitors and recommends short term manufacturing issue resolution as it relates to business profitability and provides support to operations planners and product line planners to optimally plan production and supply customers economically
Strategy and Growth
- Leads development of manufacturing long range operating plans through oversight of the Asset Teams.
- Translates Marketing Excellence and Industry Marketing strategies into operating plans for best long term asset utilization.
- Defines and influences business segment strategy through asset-backed insights.
- Evaluates strategic implications of new markets, products, and technologies on capacity, cost structure, quality, and long-term asset competitiveness. Coordinates asset strategy implementation at product level in support of business needs and asset capabilities.
- Prioritizes NA Polymers Profit Generating capital to meet company targets.
Process Development & Technology
- Coordinates product and raw material trials between Business, R&D, Procurement and Manufacturing.
- Serves as business focal point for manufacturing VEP initiatives aligned to business strategy
You Bring This Value
- Bachelor’s degree required, Engineering or Technical preferred
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience required, polymer manufacturing and/or commercial experience is preferred
- Computer literacy (incl. MS Office, SAP, Power BI and Business Warehouse)
- Good knowledge of Polyolefins Industry and business preferred
- Sound technical experience (such as manufacturing, R&D, TS)
- Demonstrated proficiency with prioritization and decision making
- Demonstrated influencing, collaboration and facilitation. Good communicator.
- Knowledge of logistics
- Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills to support high-value decisions
- Demonstrated leadership of cross functional teams
- Demonstrated capability to lead a project team from problem analysis through execution
- Ability to understand and identify critical manufacturing issues impacting business profitability with extensive interactions with Commercial, Sales, R&D, and Manufacturing management.
