Basic Function

Accountant – Volumetric Accounting


This position will support the Refining Segment Senior Lead Accountant by performing volumetric accounting functions, including mass balancing, variance analysis, and interfaces with manufacturing and supply chain personnel. The position is responsible for all volumetric accounting, reconciliation, analysis and reporting for materials at selected plants and/ or storage locations.  The position is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete and timely volumetric mass material balancing with consistent application of global mass material balancing procedures (in line with policy).    This position has cross functional interface responsibilities with key functional areas such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Refining, and various Engineering groups.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Deliver efficient and effective volumetric mass material balancing services on behalf of local sites and in accordance with corporate policies and legislative requirements.
  • Design, support and implement agreed global and regional process improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain desk top procedures for area of responsibility.
  • Perform SOX controls and maintain evidence of control for area of responsibility.
  • Support applicable cross functional initiatives.
  • Maintain effective business relationships with key stakeholders including Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Segment Controllers. 
Min. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Previous accounting or auditing experience (Internship experience will be considered).
  • Basic knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Must have technical accounting skills including journalizing financial transactions, creating financial statements, and/or reconciling account balances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential given diverse nature of operating landscape and cultural sensitivities.
  • Ability to multi task and meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure analytically and systematically.
  • Passion for driving continuous improvement.

  • Ability to operate with a high degree of integrity and will be expected to work on confidential projects. 
  • Ability to influence management decisions and behaviors that have an impact on process effectiveness.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous volumetric accounting experience preferred (mass material balancing and yield analysis and problem solving).
  • Experience with Internal Controls and SOX/404 requirements, preferred.
  • Experience in a global, fast-paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment, preferred.
  • Understanding of the business and finance processes within the Petrochemicals business model, highly desirable.
  • Extensive user of ERP systems (ideally SAP).
  • Ability to participate in the configuration, design and testing of SAP Financial Application experience preferred.
