Basic Function
This role will be responsible for the development, direction, coordination and overall management of the health, safety and environmental (HSE), and regulatory programs, procedures, training, work practices and controls for assigned facility. You will identify and ensure compliance with applicable HSE regulations and risks while interacting with Operations, Legal, and Engineering to implement acceptable systems to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
Safety:
The incumbent participates in the LyondellBasell commitment to the HSE policy and ISO9001:2015 through an awareness of and adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental programs, together with management of environmental aspects of plant performance and all HSE aspects of departmental performance. The incumbent uses safe work practices, participates in safety meetings and advises his/her supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
Role model the GoalZERO safety and performance culture and provide strong field engagement (“boots on ground”) support to the site.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Champions an injury free environment.
• Manages the day-to-day compliance with federal, state and local HSE requirements including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and NFPA, etc. Maintains awareness of regulatory requirements and analyzes potential impacts on operations. Consults directly with the management team and all associates to ensure plant compliance with policies and procedures.
• Works with site and HSE management in the creation of site HSE targets and objectives in support of plant and corporate HSE strategic initiatives designed to drive HSE culture, compliance, and results.
• Manages Job Hazard Analysis and the investigation of employee concerns, injuries, HSE incidents, and Employee Observation/Near Misses. Develops and tracks all initial accident/near miss investigations and audits corrective actions to closure.
• Monitors and reviews Corporate Safety Manual to verify compliance of assigned plant and manages completion of health, safety and environmental audits/inspections and risk assessments to identify and prioritize HSE aspects and hazards.
• Plans, implements and manages programs for assigned site to train managers and employees in work site safety practices.
• Develops and maintains a strong and positive working relationship with regulatory agency staff and industry environmental coalitions, as applicable. Communicates inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies to management.
• Coordinates and maintains compliance with industrial hygiene requirements. Orders safety supplies.
• Fosters and maintains Safety Committees.
• Works with Human Resources and Workers Compensation Manager to facilitate Worker Compensation claim activities.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, and conferences to keep current regarding environmental health and safety issues.

Min. Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Work Experience: 3 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment required.

Skills:
- Candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of industrial safety, and OSHA and EPA regulations, and a working understanding of behavioral-based safety, industrial hygiene, incident investigation, fire protection, and emergency response.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to write detailed and accurate reports and procedures, and develop and deliver presentations to all levels of the site organization.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees and work as part of a team
- Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks.
- Must be willing to work overtime, flexible hours, and on-call as needed.
- Completion of the OSHA 10- or 30-hour General Industry course is a plus.
- CPR, first aid and AED certification is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Stand on feet up to 8 hours
- Ability to perform: walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include: heat, cold, dust, strong odors, and loud noises with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including long pants, long sleeves, steel-toed boots, gloves, hard hat, safety goggles, earplugs, and are required to be worn in production area

Preferred Qualifications
Education: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related technical discipline is preferred.
License & Certification: Professional certification a plus (Ex. CIH, CSP, SMS or OHST).
