Director Product Application Development - Performance Materials Europe (m/f/d)

 

 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

 

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams across all stages of product development, ensuring seamless collaboration between New Business Development, Technical Services, Account Management, and other internal departments.
  • Drive innovation in product development activities, aligning them with customer demands, market trends, and business strategy. Champion the protection of intellectual property generated through this process.
  • Translate the organization's long-term strategic vision into actionable plans with clear objectives.
  • Possess a deep understanding of competitive and global technology trends, market needs, and industry landscape.
  • Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for projects, including costs. Prioritize and drive project advancement through the pipeline, ensuring efficient resource allocation and successful commercialization.
  • Lead a team of highly skilled technical experts, fostering a culture of ownership, empowerment, teamwork, and accountability. Implement reward systems to promote active employee engagement and achieve high-performance results.
  • Manage the risk profile of the product portfolio by defining appropriate testing procedures, generating technical customer information, and conducting thorough risk analysis using tools like DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Utilize financial analysis and project management tools to effectively manage budgets, resources, and timelines for product and application development projects.
  • Collaborate with external partners such as universities, institutes, and suppliers to initiate and advance innovative research projects with the potential to benefit the company's future.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows. Participate in presentations and manage the company's intellectual property portfolio, working with the IP department to secure patents and navigate potential challenges.

 

Qualifications

 

  • University degree in a relevant technical/ scientific field (chemistry or chemical/polymer engineering preferred).
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in the compounding or plastics chemical industry.
  • Prior experience leading a technical group (at least 10 years preferred).
  • Experience with compounds and technical polymers for automotive, consumer, and industrial applications.
  • Deep knowledge of polymer chemistry, additives, formulation know-how, and application & product knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of various types of compounds and their properties.
  • Understanding of relevant applications in target markets and their technical requirements.
  • Strong project management, people management, and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in inter-functional/cross-cultural projects.
  • Knowledge of recycled feedstock and its functionalities.
  • Additional experience in Commercial, Business Development, Applications Development, or Manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in the MS office programs, SAP, Accolade and product management systems.
  • English fluent and additional language preferred.
  • Driving licence.
