For our German site in Frankfurt am Main we are looking for a

 

Application Development & Technical Service Manager (m/f/d) Infrastructure, Building & Construction

 

The purpose of the job is to lead a technical team within the infrastructure building and construction segment that is responsible for the rapid commercialization of a portfolio of product and application solutions to improve value particularly with increased focus on deeper involvement in the value chain. Next to giving technical advice to customers in respect of most effective use of LyondellBasell’s products including Regulatory, Circular Economy and Sustainability aspects. 

The Manager (m/f/d) collaborates with stakeholders from R&D, Marketing, Sales, C&LCS, Asset Management and also with the Industry Application Development Leads.

 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Sustainability: Supports the implementation of LyondellBasell's sustainability targets through understanding of market needs, identifying suitable feedstock streams to address these needs and creating the required product and application solutions.
  • Application Development and Innovation: Develops new applications and products and manages application development and innovation projects in co-operation with people in other functions like R&D, marketing and sales, manufacturing and asset management.
  • Value concept: Supports the development and implementation of value for the customers and their customers, value for person and value in use strategy and concept. Understands final product value for our customers and the end-market / brand-owners.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitors markets and competitors; identifies technical market trends through fairs, conferences, market studies and technical visits. Uses trends analyses to develop highly profitable proposals for new products and applications or to optimize the existing product portfolio. Keeps relationship with key end-users and industry trendsetters.
  • Technical Marketing: Supports identifying of marketing opportunities for existing and new grades and applications and supports the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
  • Market Expansion: Supports market expansion in the assigned regions in close cooperation with account managers and marketing managers.
  • Existing Products: Develops and maintains application-oriented product profiles for existing products. Actively support management in keeping technical data sheets up-to-date. Ensures that customers' requirements are properly reflected in manufacturing specifications. Supports efforts for grade rationalization and cost/value optimization. Avoids technical complaints by screening the properties of existing products carefully. Benchmarks continuously existing product portfolio vs. competition.
  • Introduction of New Products: Supports the introduction of new products into the market: Presents products to customers; explains product properties and processing capabilities; suggests applications in which new products could add value.
  • Product Portfolio: Supports the optimization of the segment-specific product portfolio.
  • Special Projects: Takes an active role in projects supporting the activities of PE Europe, e.g. introduction of new technologies, marketing excellence or digitalization.
  • Advertising and Communication: Prepares technical documents, both internal (e.g. technical reports, project reports) and external (e.g. marketing packages, flyers). Provides technical training and seminars for internal and external users.
  • Complaint Handling: Evaluates technical aspects of customer complaints to identify possible reasons. Works closely with manufacturing. Makes proposals to solve the problems technically.
  • Consulting: Consults with customers in all product and process related matters.
  • Networking: Ensures closely co-operation with LyondellBasell stakeholders. Represents LyondellBasell's interests in associations dealing with standards and approvals, and in government regulatory bodies. Keeps close contacts with machine producers.
  • HSE: Follows LyondellBasell Health, Safety & Environment standards.
  • DEI: Fosters Diversity, Equity and Inclusion culture of LyondellBasell and acts as DEI idol.

 

Required Areas of Expertise

  • In-depth knowledge of LyondellBasell's products and associated applications.
  • Knowledge of competition (plants, product portfolio, innovation, segment strategy).
  • Project Management
  • Able to build and maintain technical and commercial networks within LyondellBasell and with relevant people and organizations outside LyondellBasell.
  • Strategic thinking and vision of the Polymers business and its competitors.
  • Technically knowledgeable: Good understanding of LyondellBasell's Polyolefins products and applications for related businesses. Good understanding of standardization and specification/homologation procedures in the various parts of the world.
  • Commercial awareness: solid understanding of customer needs in terms of product and services. Understands how to capture value along the value chain from polymer to end user.
  • Good understanding of Value in Use, Value for Customer and Value for Person concept
  • Contributes to find the best possible solution in all Polyolefins management team discussions and implements final decision in a professional and loyal way.
  • Planning, Coaching and Negotiating skills.
  • Able to persuade through influencing.

 

 

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in a scientific or technical field.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in an international/global business environment.
  • Fluent in German and English (written and verbal), additional language helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparation of marketing / product and people development plans from analysis through to implementation.
  • Prior experience in a technical environment, such as R&D, product/application development, technical service, technical marketing, or manufacturing.
