Basic Function

The main purpose of the job is to lead and maintain at state of the art and develop the assigned technical areas of competence within Analytical Laboratories (Solid state properties; Rheology; Microscopy), acting as technical reference for any aspect related to the scientific, methodological, technological, instrumental, in order to support R&D activities contributing to the progress of R&D projects and Business oriented solutions. Actively support Labs Management in cooperation also with Labs Scientists to strength and develop best practices sharing with other R&D tech centers to maintain Analytical Labs as state of the art and guarantee the continuous improvement in finding and developing of new/existing analytical methods, with a strong focus on recycling sustainability projects. Promote methods alignment, new techniques implementation and knowledge across LYB Experts communities.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Contribute in achieving GoalZERO performance for occupational safety, process safety and environmental aspects Comply with corporate safety standards, policies and local regulations.
  • Support, maintain and operate within assigned technical areas in accordance with Labs management inputs.
  • Support  to train and develop technicians and operators in performing analytical characterization, analytics and problem solving for various customers in R&D, manufacturing and businesses.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern experimental methods.
  • Issue and implement new methods, new procedures, new techniques in the area of competence, in cooperation also with R&D labs and Tech.Centers.
  • Improve the lab efficiency by up-dating the existing methods and techniques for characterization of new products in coordination with the Labs Management.
  • Guide and instruct co-workers, delegate jobs to co-workers, develop and coach co-workers in accordance with Labs Management. 
  • Share all instructions and the knowledge necessary for the right implementation of the analytical techniques.
  • High level reporting of technical results for both internal and external audience.
  • Issue technical reports and submit contributions to conferences, meetings, or scientific literature. Act as backup for QN & Special Projects to manage Quality Notifications and related investigation requested within Analytical Laboratories from external customers, acting as the reference for Business for any aspect related to the scientific, methodological approach in order to plan and realize those activities contributing to support to Business.
     

Min. Qualifications

Education
University Degree in the Scientific area (Physics, Chemist, Engineering); PhD is a plus.

Work Experience: 
A suitable experience (more than 10 years) and knowledge and experience in applied polymer science including a robust knowledge of the analytical techniques. 

Languages: 

  • English fluent both written and spoken
  • Any other language used in the Company is preferable title of choice (Italian, French, Deutsch, etc).

Preferred Qualifications

Technical Skills:
•    Excellent technical background in polymer chemistry & physics: 
-    Good knowledge of laboratory instruments
-    Good knowledge of polymers structure and structural characterization techniques
-    Good knowledge of correlation polymer/structure/property
•    Scientific and technical skills on polymer processing, catalysts & polyolefin materials and their market requirements.
•    Work effectively with a wide range of people and environments (local and global) keeping good relationships with other departments
•    Understand the needs of internal and external customers and propose appropriate analytical path. 
•    Maximizes leverage of findings through optimal internal communication and suggestion of translation of newly acquired models into other applications. 
•    Project management culture, change management skills, teamwork and problem-solving approach
•    Knowledge of LIMS systems for LAB data management, storage and traceability on top of the main software (Microsoft Office package, Microsoft Projects; SAP)
•    Knowledge of Statistics principles, and specifically in depth, MSA principles, process control Principles (SPC)
