Basic Function

Journeyman Mechanic are expected to:

  • Work at heights, which could be as high as 125 feet (using a JLG or other means of equipment)
  • Climb stairs, ladders and tanks
  • Operator forklifts, JLG, Scissor lifts and Backhoes
  • Drive company vehicles, plow snow, shovel and salt iced areas
  • Operate shop equipment, such as:  grinders, chop saws, drill presses, lathes, milling machines, pipe cutters and threaders, welding and cutting/burning torches.
  • Use hand and power tools, measuring tools, properly setup and use rigging equipment and be familiar with crane signalman procedures.
  • Remove and repair pumps, such as centrifugal, rotary, diaphragm and canned
  • Install, repair and rebuild valves, tubing, piping and fittings
  • Work around hazardous chemicals
  • Work in confined spaces and other work as directed
  • Computer based training is required and candidates need to have basic computer skills

Roles & Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Properly wear personal protective equipment, such as:  air purified respirators (cartridge respirator), positive pressure / on demand respirators (breathing air), Tyvek and chemical protective suits, Company uniform, steel toed shoes and other PPE as directed.
Follow site procedures, to include:  Lock out Tag out, confined space entry, ladder safety, working at heights, trench procedures, hot work / open flame, line entry (opening of lines) and others
Accountable for personal safety, the safety of fellow employees and contractors, and for promoting a safe work environment. Ensure that housekeeping standards are maintained.
Carries out all duties related to given tasks and assignments in conformity with the safety/environmental rules and proper maintenance procedures and protocols.
Takes special training and/or refresher courses the Company may request and pay for.
Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Understands and helps implement the Site’s Quality Policy and the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP).
 
ENVIRONMENT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

Understands and helps implement the Edison Site Environmental Policy and Objectives.
Is aware of potential environmental impacts within this position’s area of responsibility.
Understands and implements any parts of the Edison Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that applies to this position’s area of responsibility.
Participates in the Site’s on-going Pollution Prevention Process.
 

HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and helps implement the Site’s Safety Policy.
Actively participates in Site’s health and safety programs.
Understands and complies with all health and safety rules.
Demonstrates safe work practices.
Attends all required health and safety related meetings and training sessions.
Corrects or reports all non-conforming conditions.

Min. Qualifications

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

Education:         High school diploma or equivalent     

Experience:       3-5 years as Millwright / Journeyman / Maintenance Mechanic in chemical, pharmaceutical or manufacturing facility

Must be willing to join and become a member of the collective bargaining unit. (Union)
