Basic Function

This position is responsible for supporting:
•    Basic Regulatory and Advanced Process Control applications. 
•    Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) applications
•    The configuration, development and maintenance of control applications, DCS databases and graphics. 
•    Installation, documentation, maintenance and overall operational excellence of the process control systems and safety instrumented systems (SIS) hardware and networks. 
•    The development of new control applications utilizing single output control technology to ensure maximum benefits are obtained under changing process requirements. 
•    Assist Process Control Engineer in maintaining and upgrading advanced process models and controllers. 

•    Maintain Aspen IP21 tag configuration on the Process Control Network.

•    Maintain Plant State Suite alarm databases.

•    After hours process control systems maintenance and assisting in the training and technical support in the area of process control systems hardware and networks to the rest of the organization. 
•    This position may also act in a team support role for a variety of projects such as SIS upgrades, process control system upgrades, and alarm rationalization. 

Accountabilities

•    Maintains regular contact with Process Operators and Engineers, Control Systems Engineer, and the Operations/Maintenance Superintendents to periodically review control system/SIS performance and to obtain assistance and services in the support of maintenance, implementation and utilization of control applications. 
•    Fulfills either a support or team role on major capital projects by collectively working with associates to ensure capital assignments are completed on time and under budget 
•    Designs and develops formal and informal training programs. Provides technical assistance and guidance to the Operating personnel concerning the key principles and use of the advanced control applications.
•    The current standard DCS requires knowledge of the Windows operating systems and networks. Job requirements may include installation of software and troubleshooting of Windows based DCS/PC software and hardware on the process control network. Utilization of Visual Basics for Application development may be required. 
•    Designs, develops, and prepares formal documentation in support of basic and advanced control applications. 
•    Participates in the development of documentation standards including updates to the unit operating manuals. Also, participates in the Management of Change process to initiate and assist in the start-up of new or modified control applications. 
•    Designs, develops and implements new Basic Regulatory and Advanced Process Control applications. Emphasis is on applications utilizing single output control technology as well as providing assistance to the Control Systems Engineer with multi-variable predictive controls. 
•    Provides after hours process control systems & SIS system support. 
•    Responsible for managing the security of the plant DCS systems, maintaining the current database backups, software revisions and DCS system patches. In addition, responsible for maintaining the related DCS and system software contracts and ensuring the availability of critical spare parts. 
 

Min. Qualifications

•    A high school degree is required.
•    Must have a minimum of 10 years of industry experience in Operations or Maintenance I&E, or alternatively 5 years' experience with an associate degree in instrumentation, electronics, computer system technology, process technology or similar field of study.  
•    Experience in DCS board operation or maintenance/troubleshooting of process control (Provox and/or Emerson DeltaV a plus) and safety instrumented systems (Emerson DeltaV preferred) a plus.  
•    Experience with configuration, programming, Provox/Emerson (Emerson preferred) process control systems, computer networking systems and programmable logic controllers is desired.
•    Experience in Syngas/Partial Oxidation or Methanol operations a plus
•    This position requires development and execution of procedures and best practices required to maintain the operational excellence of the process control systems. 
•    An individual in this position must be capable of planning and managing the work of a small group of resources, both internal and external that may be involved in the installation, repair, diagnostic testing or upgrade of the process control systems. 
•    An individual in this position must be able to effectively communicate priorities and recommendations relating to process control systems hardware, to all levels within the plant.
