Basic Function

The Reliability Team Lead is a working engineer in the Intermediates & Derivatives (I&D) Reliability department and reports to the I&D Reliability Manager at the LyondellBasell La Porte, Texas facility. This position coaches, mentors, and supervises mechanical engineers to ensure the safe execution of the site reliability objectives. The position also provides engineering support, including leading reliability improvements, supporting expense & capital projects, and supporting outage & turnarounds.

Roles & Responsibilities

Leadership Role
•    Ensures compliance and drives continuous improvement in Health, Safety, & Environmental protection for the group and facility
•    Delivers GoalZERO performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement
•    Assists with development of the annual Reliability budget and updates reliability long-range plans
•    Develops and maintains site maintenance & reliability procedures and guidelines
•    Manages performance and professional development of direct reports
•    Assures the Roles and Responsibilities of engineers are met
•    Drives strong Engineering Discipline culture that includes continuous improvement
•    Spending approval per Delegation of Authority (DOA) guidelines
•    Facilitates team member development, and completion of Performance Appraisals and Development Plans
•    Participates in STI and Merit increase determinations for team members
•    Ensures the Code of Conduct and all other Company policies are accurately, consistently, and fairly administered
•    Ensures unit support requirements by coordinating and approving vacations and working schedules.
•    Assigns team members to support unit roles, capital projects, maintenance projects, action items, investigations, & turn-arounds
•    Develops team training plan within the approved yearly training budget
Working Role
•    Leads/provides technical support in the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modification of existing assets to minimize life cycle cost and maximize asset availability
•    Actively participates in Reliability Improvement and/or Path to Excellence (P2E) Teams to guide effort to maximize equipment reliability
•    Supports site outages and turnarounds
•    Leads and participates in incident investigations to identify and eliminate the root cause of incidents, complete and close findings
•    Implements reliability best practices, develops and optimizes PM/PdM tasks, and supports maintenance activities by providing troubleshooting & repair assistance
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Mechanical Engineering degree preferred)
•    Minimum of six (6) years of experience in chemical or refinery industry required
•    Turnaround experience required
•    Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams
•    Typically familiar with: 
o    Barrier Failure Analysis methodologies
o    Industry codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, NEC, NFPA) and their application
o    Varieties of process equipment (turbomachinery, pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, blowers, gearboxes, piping, flanges, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, motors, MCCs, transformers, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and SIS & DCS systems)
o    Diagnostics and equipment repair
o    Component failure analysis
o    Business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes
o    Electronic tools (e.g. SAP, Meridium, Bently Nevada, Documentum, CEA, AMS, SKM)
