Basic Function

The O&P Mechanical/Condition Monitoring Team Lead is an engineer in the Reliability department who reports to the O&P Reliability Manager.  This position coaches, mentors, and supervises engineers and condition monitoring analysts to ensure the effective execution of the site reliability objectives while also managing the condition monitoring program. 

Roles & Responsibilities

Mechanical Lead Role
•    Ensures compliance and drives continuous improvement in Health, Safety, & Environmental protection for the group and facility
•    Delivers GoalZERO performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement
•    Assists with the development of the annual Reliability budget and updates reliability long-range plans
•    Develops and maintains site maintenance & reliability procedures and guidelines
•    Manages performance and professional development of direct reports
•    Assures the Roles and Responsibilities of engineers are met
•    Drives strong Engineering Discipline culture that includes continuous improvement
•    Spending approval per Delegation of Authority (DOA) guidelines
•    Facilitates team member development and completion of Performance Appraisals and Development Plans
•    Participates in STI and Merit increase determinations for team members
•    Ensures the Code of Conduct and all other Company policies are accurately, consistently, and fairly administered
•    Ensures unit support requirements by coordinating and approving vacations and working schedules
•    Assign team members to support unit roles, capital projects, maintenance projects, action items, investigations, & turnarounds
•    Develop a team training plan within the approved yearly training budget
Condition Monitoring Lead Role
•    Leads Condition Monitoring Team and provide representation for LPO
•    Support the development of any condition monitoring recommendations issued by the team
•    Ensure the development, management, and delivery of a weekly Equipment Watchlist for the site
•    Own the 5-year Condition Monitoring Continuous Monitoring upgrade plan
•    Periodically review historical Condition Monitoring reliability and lubrication data, including monthly delivery of Condition Monitoring and lubrication KPI’s, investigating patterns and improvement opportunities
•    Develop backlog (idealist) for potential Condition Monitoring projects
•    Participate as Condition Monitoring Reliability Representative on assigned capital projects
•    Lead OE compliance Condition Monitoring initiatives and action items
•    Manage performance and professional development of the condition monitoring team
•    Assure the Roles and Responsibilities of the condition monitoring team are defined and communicated


 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Engineering with minimum of ten (10) years of experience in chemical or refinery industry
•    Excellent communication and influencing skills
•    Turnaround experience / ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams
•    Effective leadership and organization skills
•    The ability to earn the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity and authenticity
•    The ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive and private employee information
•    Willingness to coach, develop and hold others accountable
•    Commitment to health, safety, security, and environmental work processes
•    Project and budget management experience
•    Familiarity with:
    o    Industry codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, NEC, NFPA) and their application
    o    Varieties of process equipment (turbomachinery, pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, blowers, gearboxes, piping, flanges, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, motors, MCCs, transformers, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and SIS & DCS systems)
    o    Diagnostics and equipment repair
    o    Component failure analysis
    o    Business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes
    o    Electronic tools (e.g. SAP, Meridium, Bently Nevada, Documentum, CEA, AMS, SKM)

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience with both fixed and rotating equipment
•    Experience working in the LYB LaPorte Site (LPO)
