Basic Function

This role provides front end project definition, development, installation and check out support as part of a production engineering department for the Lyondellbasell Syngas-Methanol Units at the LaPorte TX complex.  This role will work with a separate capital project group at the site that manages the detailed project engineering.  The Syngas and Methanol unit consist of 3 partial oxidation reactor systems, an 11 process equipment coldbox, methanol unit, H2 compression, boiler, flares, waste water system, and cooling tower.


Roles & Responsibilities

•    Develop and implement projects to improve and sustain value in the areas of process safety, environment, production, cost, and quality.
•    Support the project group with issues that occur as part of detailed engineering 
•    Coordinate the actions of several departments necessary to resolve issues.
•    Improve processes through creating process alarms, verifying process calculations, evaluation of permit levels, incident analysis, and capital project.  
•    Perform design calculations required to generate process data to check and validate equipment and system performance.
•    Effectively interface with groups across the company including site manufacturing and technical groups, other process engineering support groups, project engineering and business and engineering management. 
•    Effectively facilitate teamwork to obtain alignment of organizational goals and gain consensus and support from company personnel. 
•    Participate in process hazard analyses, management of change, and project completion activities. 
•    Mentor less experienced engineers.  Develop and deliver technical training.
•    Coordinate and perform front end project initiation duties for small capital projects.
•    Participate in unit turnarounds

The Ideal Candidate Should Have

•    B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering 
•    A minimum of 8 years prior experience working as a chemical engineer with relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries. 
•    Experience with Syngas, partial oxidation reaction, oxygen, methanol, or boiler processes a plus
