The Maintenance Technician  is responsible for welding and assembling metal components in the maintenance, repair and installation of piping and vessels.  Primary skills utilized, but not limited to cutting, grinding, brazing, welding and fabrication from blueprints. Perform unplanned, planned, and scheduled maintenance tasks on a daily basis utilizing mechanical skills.  Primary skills utilized, but not limited to performing flange make ups, hydrotests, rigging, safe handling of pressure relief devices, and disassembly/reassembly of exchangers, vessels etc.

A Day in the Life

  • Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations as well as company procedures, standards and specifications.
  • Perform GTAW & SMAW in carbon and stainless steel while contributing in other multi-craft activities such as boilermaker, pipefitter and other maintenance technician work as needed.
  • Perform work in flat, horizontal, overhead and vertical planes – all position welding.
  • Takes personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations and work performance as they relate to the company’s key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and cost of operation.
  • Provides accurate and timely communication to co-workers, and works with other functions to improve individual and unit performance.  Provides ideas, raises concerns, and promotes an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
  • Participates in training and skill development of other maintenance technicians. Engages in frequent developmental dialog with their supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development; supports other crafts by increasing their technical skills and knowledge beyond their own craft.
  • Responds to maintenance work orders as directed with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units; must respond to call-outs
  • Reviews job packages and provides feedback on constructability or safety concerns

You Bring This Value

  • Candidates for this position must possess a High School diploma or GED
  • A minimum of four years of experience as a welder, pipefitter, boilermaker, and rigger required
  • Must be able to complete required tests using approved welding procedures in accordance with A.S.M.E. Section IX, B 31.3
  • Must be able to read blueprints, isometric drawings, piping layouts and possess experience in fabricating from same
  • Basic computer skills are also a requirement for this position
  • High commitment to the craft and willing to learn and accept new challenges
  • Self-starter and capable of leading formal or informal work groups

Additionally, the candidate:

  • Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language
  • Must be willing and able to work plant call-outs
  • Must be available to work shifts including weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must be willing to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training and equipment)
  • Must be able to complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
  • Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment
  • Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, elevated heights (above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders) and noisy areas.
  • Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 pounds)
  • Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces
  • Must adhere to all rules and procedures
