Basic Function

Process Control System Specialists have the responsibility to provide daily support for the Operating Plant through continued technical expertise to production, maintenance, design and engineering groups.  
The Process Control Systems Specialists have the responsibility to:
•    support and maintain Process Control Systems hardware and software, including effective communication with internal customers
•    ensure implemented projects and strategies follow plant standards and specifications and ensure that their portion of initiatives are completed in a safe, environmentally sound and timely manner
•    provide leadership and discipline expertise to the less experienced support staff
•    assist Process Control Engineers in establishing and meeting schedules and budgets

Min. Qualifications

•    Associates Degree in Computer Technology/Instrumentation or Process Technology
•    Minimum 3-5 years of Process Control systems, Safety Instrumentation Shutdown (SIS) systems or equivalent industry training and/or operational experience
•    DCS experience (preferably Honeywell TDC 3000 and/or Experion)
•    Ability to work safely in a chemical process industry environment, including field support in controlled process areas
•    Ability to read and understand control schemes, logic function blocks, P&ID’s and loop drawings
•    Highly motivated and able to implement self-directed expansion of Controls Knowledge and problem solving skills.   
•    Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to use, maintain and produce high quality Process documentation.
•    Strong safety values and internal customer orientation.
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively, engaging in conflict resolution and routinely interacting in cross-functional groups.
•    This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing (TWIC) rule and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to an ancillary facility.
•    Participation with on-call rotation may be required

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Responsible for executing established operational work processes and procedures to support and maintain Process Control Systems, their instrumentation and management interfaces
•    Provides plant project technical support, based on the developed Control Systems Strategy, to the engineering and design group, on the affected control system hardware for all projects in their area of expertise   
•    Interface with internal Clients - especially Operations and Instrumentation groups, on routine Control System operational functions and resolve problems
•    Actively participating and take ownership responsibility in scheduled maintenance activities to ensure Control System Infrastructure reliability and integrity
•    Utilize best practices and other methodologies, to automate and improve work process performance and results
•    Develop increasing level of expertise in SIS / PLC-HMI / DCS Subsystems, with increasing responsibilities
•    Accepts responsibility to ensure that all assigned issues are tracked and resolved
•    Involved in Start-up of all new additions to the control systems in their area of expertise
•    Provides training to Operations, maintenance and peer personnel on additions or changes to the Process Control Systems in their area of expertise 
•    Facilitates the Alarm Management initiative and metrics reporting, and this position owns the alarm philosophy document.
•    Navigates IP networks and the various communication protocols required to ensure the system functions optimally while meeting customer data needs
