Basic Function

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a 7 day a week QC Laboratory.  The lab technician is responsible for lab analysis to support manufacturing of chemical products which include Ethylene and Polyethylene.  Laboratory technicians are responsible for providing efficient and cost-effective routine and non-routine analytical and physical testing on products produced and/or samples generated at this site.  They are also accountable for working safely, independently, and efficiently while always seeking and implementing methods to reduce costs, improve quality and reduce the potential for injury. This position places emphasis on proactively seeking continuous improvement and utilizes best practices in order to meet or exceed our customer expectations.  The incumbent is expected to assist the organization in achieving results that accomplish company, region, and site goals and initiatives and embrace the Essential Elements.  The incumbent is expected to demonstrate the core competencies and adhere to company policies and procedures.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate analyses of product quality control samples and other samples as required.  Test quality control standards to ensure validity of sample results.  Perform routine calibrations as required and maintain associated records.  Communicate test results as required with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate an “All Accidents are Preventable” commitment and take ownership for safety processes.  Work safely both independently and with groups.  Serve and participate on committees dealing with safety investigations, policy and procedure development, and other groups as required.  Proactively participate and support Health, Safety, and  Environmental related activities.
  • Engage in active frequent developmental dialog with Supervisors, peers, and others to continually enhance personal performance and development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment to the appropriate level.  This includes the ability to diagnose, calibrate, perform preventive maintenance, and make routine repairs.

           Other Requirements:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse set of cross functional groups.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to perform job with minimal direction from supervision and identify opportunities to develop self.
  • Proficient computer skills are required to effectively use requisite software applications.
  • Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Overtime as required to support the 7 day a week lab operation
  • Pass pre-employment testing including a physical.

Min. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Basic computer knowledge, Microsoft products and Laboratory Information Management Systems, is desirable.  
  • The incumbent must have a good understanding of analytical technology and laboratory instrumentation, unit processes, statistical quality control, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.  
  • The incumbent must have good written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively interface with all levels of employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) year Associate Degree in Chemical Technology or High School Diploma with 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience as a laboratory technician with 8 hours of college Chemistry preferred.
