The Operations Supervisor will provide leadership and development of Process Technicians in the Ethylene unit by coaching, directing and motivating while providing consistent and fair treatment. A candidate for this position should be able to effectively manage performance, champion change, influence and guide, be a Company advocate, and make sound decisions in the absence of clear direction or written guidelines.

A Day in the Life

• Drives unit performance to the business plan through sound operating practices
• Coordinate operations activities in the assigned area to ensure that the unit is operated in the safest, most efficient manner possible.
• Set production priorities in conjunction with the Ethylene Unit Specialist and Operations Manager.
• Provide operating guidelines which are consistent with other shifts within the unit.
• Ensures compliance with Company Operational Excellence Standards and site procedures that support those standards.
• Be an effective communicator with the shift technicians, as well as between shift, day staff, and unit management.
• Establish shift standards such that all Ethylene unit technicians have a high level of safety and environmental awareness and are accountable for their actions. 
• Develops hourly operations personnel through coaching, feedback, and unit assignments.
• Schedules and assigns hourly personnel to staff the unit.
• Provide the training resources for all personnel to develop their skills.
• Provides recognition and feedback to technicians while acting as a coach and counselor.
• Administer company policies and procedures.
• Responsible for the assigned area’s environmental performance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable environmental rules, policies, and procedures.
• Understand and support the Equistar Quality Policy for the Clinton Plant; specifically finished product quality assurance.

You Bring This Value

  • High School diploma, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a petrochemical manufacturing environment.
  • Supervisory mark-up experience and Ethylene unit experience is highly desirable.
  • Must have proven leadership capabilities, demonstrated team-building abilities, and strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive attitude on the shift and in the department.
  • Applicants must have shown the ability to work well with those inside and outside the department.
    Leadership skills are required to achieve goals, promote change, and manage the administrative aspects of the job.

    This job requires a variety of supervisory and management skills as noted above, in addition to good motivation and self-direction.  Must be able to motivate, communicate, share knowledge, and be responsive to needs of internal customers.
